The Effects of the Civil War
Despite the expenses incurred, the civil war was romanticized because its effects resulted in a more united USA and improved living conditions for all citizens. The war resulted in the abolition of slavery and the advancement of basic rights and ideals. The conflict had devastating effects and caused a significant economic loss. The conflict was a significant turning point in American history and contributed to the development of modern-day America. The amendments to the reconstruction laws that abolished slavery and the congress's authority to enforce the laws had additional effects of the conflict. Minorities now have equitable voting rights, and individual freedoms and rights have greatly improved. The Americans were more segregated and divided before the war on basis of color, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, social class and political affiliation. After the war several measures have been put in place leading to country’s transformative agenda with respect to equality, power and liberty. The period of reconstruction took place immediately after the war ironically giving the war a sense of importance. The aftermath resulted in the liberation of the African Americans who had been in slavery, empowering them and improving on their livelihood.
The Continuing Struggle for Equality
The Americans continue to fight this war even to date in a quest to fulfill their American dream and to achieve what they believe in. America is one sovereign nation comprising of people of diverse cultures, religions and affiliations. Each group with regards to their beliefs always strives to fight for their rights and beliefs. The contradictions in beliefs among the different people have helped promote the war. The war has been ongoing though in a non-combat form as many Americans continue to yean for equality in all aspects of life and governance. The rise of activists, reformers and elites has helped in transforming the American society as the war for equal rights, freedoms and opportunities continues. The success and positive outcomes of the Civil War has been instrumental in continued fights as most still believe that their quests have not been fulfilled satisfactorily.
