Hale and Hearty Marriages
Hale and hearty marriages are essential for the mental as well as physical well-being of couples and children. However, statistics show that approximately forty to fifty percent of married couples in the United States divorce (John., 2013). The break-up rate for ensuing marriages is even greater. The average interval of marriage that culminates in divorce is eight years, and for those people who wish to marry again, they wait for about three years after a divorce. The average age for couples experiencing a split-up is thirty years. In the United States, divorce rates were high at nearly forty percent in 1980 and had been declining over time (John., 2013). Nevertheless, over the last century, there has been a steady increase in divorce and there are various aspects that have resulted in this issue.
Age as a Contributing Factor
One of the factors that have contributed to the heightened divorce rates in the United States is age. The age at which an individual marries influences their likelihoods of a break-up. Those who tie the knot prior to the age of twenty-five are more likely to divorce than those who marry past that age. Recent research has it that the best age to join in matrimony lies between twenty-eight to thirty-two years (John., 2013). All the same, settling down later in life gives more possibility of the couple enduring in that marriage since the aspect of maturity is high, and they can handle issues better and more soberly.
Education and Divorce
Another issue is education. Those individuals who have completed college have fewer chances of getting divorce compared to those who have not reached that level. The current study shows that women who had finalized their college training had a 14.2 percent divorce rate per one thousand, while those who had not completed university had a rate of twenty-three per one thousand (John., 2013). In connection with age, the older a person is, the higher the chances are of them having higher and better education.
Impact of Income
Another factor is income. Well-off couples can fight over personal matters, but the stress that comes with a high budget is far worse. Studies conducted in California University show that married folks who fight over the issue of finance a few times in a month were less likely to split up than those who argued over the same every day. The present-day economic downturn has had a double-edge consequence on marriage break up in the United States. On the one hand, the slump has spurred some divorces ahead, due to the pressure of losing money and encountering debt, foreclosure, and joblessness. The other side of this is that some couples tend to stick together merely because divorce is costly and they cannot meet the financial burden required for the process (John., 2013).
Race and Divorce Rates
The fourth factor that leads to high divorce rates is race. An exploration of data from the 2014 community survey indicates that Asian women, living in the United States have the least separation rates, followed by Hispanic and white females (John., 2013). Black women have somewhat higher rates compared to white women. However, this gets more complex since it relates to many other issues that increase an individual's probabilities of divorce. For example, women of color encounter augmented hurdles to advanced heights of schooling and income, all of which may have a mutual influence on the divorce frequency among these women (John., 2013).
Conclusion
Overall, people have conflicting opinions of what marriage is but most importantly, to avoid divorce, couples should value working together to uphold and preserve relationships instead of absconding when things get hard.
