The Negative Effects of Pornography
The use and availability of pornography have become pervasive among adolescents and adults. The utilization of pornographic films, video, and literature is coupled with various adverse physical, psychological, and emotional health consequences. These comprise of the high rates of depression, violent behavior, anxiety, sexual promiscuity, negative perception of relationships between women and men, and increased risk of teen pregnancy. Ultimately, pornography increases the possibility of the divorce among the adults which is also detrimental to children.
The Definition and Accessibility of Pornography
Pornography refers to the sexual display of lewd behavior both in writing and pictures (Zillman 520). The depiction is intended to incite sexual excitement in the watcher. For over the past decades, there has been a progressive increase in pornographic films, video, and literature in America to both children and adults. The use and accessibility of the mainstream filth have increased because the materials are anonymous and affordable (Zillman 531). Notably, they are accessible because they are readily available on the internet. Moreover, some websites post third-party films which are accessed for free by the viewer.
The Prevalence of Pornography among Adults and Children
Demographic information concerning the use of pornography is similar among the adults and children. Research indicates that 49 percent of the young women and 67 percent of the young men are exposed to pornographic films, video, and literature in America (Van & Ponnett 773). Admittedly, the filth exposure for adolescents and children has become ubiquitous. Another study was conducted in 2011 and reveals that 31 percent of adolescent boys affirmed accessing websites that were contemplated as Adult (Zillman 538). According to the inquiry conducted by Hald (1070), 32 percent of females and 51 percent of males claimed to have observed pornography at the age of 13. Pornographic films, video, and literature have become prevalent in the entire modern American society.
The Impact of Pornography on Children
Students are often exposed to pornographic films, video, and literature accidentally when they observe material online. Additionally, they mistakenly come across with adult's or parent's filth content. Sexual predators have intentionally exposed minors to filth for the aim of grooming the kids for sex exploitation (Hald 1079). Generally, exposure at this tender age mostly causes anxiety for the young men and women. Moreover, infants report feelings of fear, shock, embarrassment, disgust, and sadness after watching pornography (Hald 1080). Collectively, children suffer from both depression and anxiety. Consequently, they come to be obsessed with engaging in adult sexual acts that they have viewed and eventually, this becomes disturbing and disruptive to the kid's peers who are victimized or witness these erotic behaviors. Research indicates that kids under the age of twelve who have accessed filth are statistically likely to assault their friends sexually (Hald 1081). Ultimately, young men and women exposed to pornographic films, video, and literature are at danger for a wide range of psychopathology and maladaptive behaviors.
The Gender-Based Issues Created by Pornography
There is an affirmation that a community's acceptance of the filth creates isolated problems for females. The consumption of pornographic films, video, and literature results in sexual and violently aggressive perceptions towards young women. Notably, the use of pornography among men is often likely to make them believe in rape myth that women cause rape and they enjoy sexual assault. Research indicates that exposure to forceful filth is coupled with sexually hostile actions in both adult males and adolescents (Zillman 519). Pornographic films not only degrade the value of women in the society but also expose young men and women to drug abuse and prostitution.
The Distorted Understanding of Sexuality
The use of pornographic films, video, and literature by young adults and adolescent mostly leads to a twisted perception of sexuality and its part in promoting a healthy personal connection. These falsifications comprise of an overrating of the generality of the sexual activity in the society, a notion that abstinence from sexual activity is unhealthy, and the assumption that sexual promiscuity is conventional (Zillman 519). These interpretations make it difficult for young women and men to form the meaningful and lasting relationship which optimally result in depression, overall life dissatisfaction, and anxiety.
The Impact on Marital Relationships
Pornographic films, video, and literature have an adverse outcome on long-term cohabitation and married couples. Consequently, it makes them more endangered to dissolution or divorce and this has unfavorable health effects on their children. Notably, the consumption of the filth in the context of marriage is substantially restricted to the husband (Van & Ponnett 777). In this case, the wife is considered to be an occasional co-participant and reluctantly accepting to use pornography, unlike the husband who is fully aware of the pornographic game. Therefore, the more a woman views her boyfriend or husband using Pornographic films, video, and literature, the more dismissive she ranks her intimacy in general and ultimately that is how she rates her sexual satisfaction.
Conclusion
In conclusion, young men and women in America suffer several adverse effects because of the contemporary society's acceptance and exposure to Pornographic films, video, and literature. These obstructive effects include physical, psychological, and emotional health consequences as well as unrest for the youngsters in schools. Because of its detrimental impact on kids, pornography must never be used as a strategy to educate minors about human sexuality. For young adults and older adolescents, pornographic video teaches them a biased narrative concerning human sexuality and how women and men create a healthy sexual connection. Ultimately, for the parents and guardians, pornography is isolating, causing decreased quality of marital status and escalating chances of separation and divorce which is injurious to children.
