Nursing is defined as the acts of protecting, preventing, and optimizing health and talents; preventing illness; alleviating pain; and advocating for a healthy community. This concept aided the American Nurses Association (ANA) in developing the essential roles of all nurses in the United States, which include practicing the profession and advocating nursing standards at work. On the other side, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) guarantees Citizens access to high-quality, affordable health care. The PPACA's major tool is medical insurance, and it aims to insure more than 32 million new Americans.
Nurse Practitioners and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The act recommends an increase in reliance on nurses in addressing primary care needs. Primarily, the nurses should be given a go ahead in caring out the diagnosis without being supervised by a physician: This will give nurses more confidence and will save more lives since they have the mandate to deal with more cases which come across. Common health care will also be met adequately in the community as a result of this (Stephen & Paul, 2012).
It also authorized funding for nurse-managed health clinics (NMHCs) and school based Health clinics; this move helped nurses to come into managerial positions as well as making thousands have access to health care. More nurses will have an opportunity to practice her profession due to more job opportunities presented to the nurses (Nursesbook.org, 2010). The legislation put up plans for funding Nursing students which will make more students venture into the profession thus leading to the fulfilment of primary health cares in the states.
An increase in the scope of the nurses’ practice allowing them to diagnose and prescribe medication to patients without guidance from a physician and introduction of a pocket-friendly insurance program, has improved the health sector. Nurses now are bestowed with the role of making sure the health of the citizens is met. The future of the nursing profession is brightened by the legislation since they have more positions in the health sector as well as having the opportunity to advance my studies in the profession (Alicia , 2013).
