Parish nurses, according to Healthy People 2020, can be responsive to varied health care delivery objectives (ODPHP, 2017). The following are the objectives:
Raising the number of adolescents who never use drugs or alcohol.
Increasing the number of schools that provide health education in order to prevent health issues such as violence, HIV/AIDS, poor eating habits, drug and substance addiction, and unintentional injury, among others.
Lowering the proportion of impoverished households.
Reduce the proportion of households experiencing food insecurity, hence alleviating hunger.
Faith-based communities can assist reduce hunger and neediness in society by establishing food outlets that low-income people can afford (ODPHP, 2017). Besides, they can help prevent substance abuse among the youth through education and guidance on the harmful effects of drug addiction. The nurses can form partnerships with the parish nurses and the faith communities through embracing culture and diversity in the care provided. Thus, the population is served with compassion under sacred and safe environment for the healing of the spirit, body, and mind. Such partnerships are beneficial, as more people will be served with minimum expenditure as the parish nurses may not be paid for their services (Perkin, 2017).
The local and state health departments are mandated to enforce regulations that ensure public safety like sewer treatment. Furthermore, the health departments have the mandate to detect and control outbreaks of diseases that may prove infections and therefore keep the society healthy. To attain the various goals and health care promotion, local and state establishments have to collaborate with ordinary and parish nurses to increase public access to the health care services (Perkin, 2017). Moreover, they can induce the public into healthy behaviors through mass communication and monitoring of physical exercises and dietary patterns.
