Navigating Organizational Change for Success and Adaptability

Organizational Change in a Food-related Business

Organizational change is always a mandatory process that helps the company enhance its performance and operational outcomes. I witnessed an organizational change when I was operating a food-related business. The previous system that was in place involved the company placing orders with the suppliers, then the suppliers would make a delivery the following day. However, this practice was becoming costly to the business after it opened its second branch because the suppliers had to deliver goods to various branches, which came with an extra cost of doing double deliveries. Therefore, the management opted to rent a building and establish a commissary, where the suppliers would deliver all the products before being dispatched to their respective branches. In turn, this cut down the cost of transport and created more space to prepare the foods sold at the business premises. The change process involved the business owners and the supervisors. The business owners played the role of funding the change and ensuring that there were enough resources to complement the change, while the supervisors oversaw the process of change and monitored the team that was brought in to train the staff that would be working at the commissary.

Enhancing the Change Process

A strategy that would enhance the usefulness of this change is integrating the current experienced staff in training and supervising the commissary. One of the main factors that support successful change is communication with everyone to gain insight on the best approach of the new plan (Mushtaq, 2011). If managers and business owners had previously communicated with the existing staff on how to manage the commissary, the employees would have offered to train the incoming team. This would not only cut down the cost of hiring trainers but also ensure that the new staffs are taught the secrets of efficiency as practiced by the existing employees and create uniformity.
