My Contribution to Cancer Research

Personal Experience with Cancer



Having a personal experience with cancer, whether in the form of a friend or family member is not normal for many people. However, my case is unique and astonishing. The demise of my grandmother from breast cancer developed in me an intense interest in biology. Ultimately, I decided that the biggest contribution I could make was to take a form of career in a scientific field that would help me discover the enigma of cancers and consequently strive towards establishment diagnosis and treatment of this deadly disease. As a result, I decided to study Bachelor of Science in biomedical science at the University of ABC that formed a firm foundation for my postgraduate research in Masters Level. My aspiration to follow this career path has always increased each day.



Comprehensive Academic Training



As a Biomedical undergraduate student, I went through a comprehensive academic training not just in biology but also in chemistry, mathematics, and principles of Computer Science. Moreover, I utilized my free time to develop python programming and encoding. In my third year, I conducted an intensive research on CRISPR/Cas9 to assess, dragonize and determine the most effective treatment for cystic fibrosis. Later, I did my dissertation project to examine how tumor hypoxia develops and how it is related to poor prognosis of cancer patients. With an extended interest of cancer genetics and molecular biology, I enrolled a Masters in Science program in advanced biomedical imaging in the University of ABC. There, I gained a significant experience in determining the location of cancerous lesions through a three-month lab research in hypoxia and imaging tracer. The research helped to gain the ability to practice precise targeting of radiotherapy. The entire project in biomedical research enables me to embrace the growth of forefront technologies. In addition, the intensive laboratory experience has enhanced my organizational skills, attentiveness, and an increased desire to explore new technologies.



Embracing Bioinformatics Analyses



Furthermore, my Masters Project exposed me to several bioinformatics analyses in the lab which compelled me to acknowledge the impact of applying computational methods in advanced biology. For instance, microarrays and deep sequencing allow scientists to examine a biological event at a genome-wide scale. Consequently, a string analysis could enable our knowledge of a single molecule to expand to the whole signaling pathway.



Pursuing a Ph.D. Research Program



Whereas I view cancer as an opportunity to specialize in the Ph.D. research program, I understand that becoming a competent research scientist in Cancer requires more than a mere wish to contribute to theoretical research knowledge, but rather rigorous multidisciplinary clinical investigations in collaboration with both the upcoming and the experienced Scientists. Through efforts and determination, I believe it is easy to find solutions to the most chronic and overwhelming forms of cancers especially prostate cancer. Therefore, I look forward to working with the PRIME multi-disciplinary multi-center team at the University of Trento, Italy to develop tools to analyze Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data from Prostate Cancer patients. Following the discovery of the next-generation sequencing technologies in the recent past, it has now become easier to understand the altered genetic pathways involved in human cancer. As a result, I really wish to be part of NGS data analysis team to conduct a research project that will help us to know how the tools especially the visualization and genome browsers can be used to identify and interpret cancer mutations for clinical diagnosis of prostate cancer. The project will not only equip me with the skills I need in my future role but it will also help to reduce the mortality rates associated with prostate cancer.



Devoted to Cancer Research



I highly appreciate working as a team. Essentially; I am devoted to undergo a project in the field of cancer research that will enable me to make a weighty contribution to help people recover from Prostate cancer and other types. Therefore, with my vast experience, I am greatly convinced that I qualify to be selected and become part of Treatment Resistance Team together with the PRIME multi-disciplinary multi-center team. I believe with my potentials and your fine structured program will greatly enable me to have a successful research life in the multi-modal clinical testing of the prostate cancer patient plasma and its holistic intervention.
