Niccolo Machiavelli and "The Prince"
Niccolo Machiavelli published The Prince to encourage leaders to practice proper governance despite the existence of unethical behaviors in the society. The book provides that good management and civilization are related elements that administrators should consider in a bid promote peace in a country (Machiavelli 12).
The Power of Virtuous Policies
Moreover, I agree with Machiavelli when he stated that the application of virtuous policies to control government assets motivate the people to make good choices regarding the development of the state. Machiavelli wrote the book in 1513 to explain how representatives can use the instruments of power to improve the welfare of the people. The managers can also continue to rule without using improper methods such as assassination to maintain authority.
Dedication to Lorenzo de Piero
Machiavelli devoted the book to Lorenzo de Piero because of high professionalism that the royal showed to the people (20). The Prince portrays that leaders should use proper approaches the gain power and desist from applying immoral technics such as mercenaries. The leaders should formulate appropriate policies and laws because a lack of these elements makes an irrelevant monarch. The Prince also highlights Machiavelli's need for employment as he offers to give the crucial knowledge on how to rule Italy in the most ethical manner (27). The author supports this idea by dedicating a page to Lorenzo Di Medici in which he requests the administrator to accept him as one of his advisers (28).
Types of State Governance
The Prince specifies the types of state governance that exist across the globe and the characteristic of each leadership model. The administrative categories that the book describes encompass republics, hereditary princedoms, and mixed principalities. Machiavelli uses these examples to explain how leaders can acquire and maintain power without causing havoc in the country (31).
The Importance of Reputation and Unity
The Prince further states the importance of reputation because the factor helps a leader to rule with authority. The book reports that country managers should not give money to show generosity given that such an action is fiscally irresponsible. Machiavelli summarizes the book by encouraging unity among the Italian people and depicts the importance of proper military development in human security (132).
