Last week on 21st March, I attended a live performance for my concert review. This type of show was a live performance at the Athanaeum Theater organized by Lyric Opera of Chicago. Handing my ticket to the ticket lady, I walked into the theater. There were chrome edged boxes at the corners where the occasional person can grab something instrumental. When the crowd grew bigger, it moved to the actual theater. One could feel there was a thrilling adventure behind the doors. In the main theater, they played a slow, meticulous, classical music. Besides, the seats were spaced from each other by almost two feet which made it quite comfortable to move about and with the stair-like arrangement, cases of obstruction from persons walking across the floor area were at a minimum. Overall, the theatre proved to be very comfortable and captivating
I grew up to like various artistic works, and I tend to agree that all the performance was great. Although the lyrical music, as well as the subtitle in the Fellow Travelers Opera, was beautiful. The music has aspects of romance, simplicity, as well as the early music genre. The music makes one cry because it tells the story of the sad situations. Besides, the directing of the opera especially on the parts of the love scenes was touching. I almost liked how the two lovers navigated their double lives. They were brave to fight political oppression although it led to heartbreaks. I did not like how the performers’ demonstrated fear when narrating how the lovers were threatened, although, it illustrates how freedom was limited in the past. I love the way the music was performed because it blended well with how it was composed. I disliked the performance of the characters especially when they were demonstrating fear. They seem to lack composure.
The performance demonstrated what used to happen in the era of McCarthy 1950s at Washington. The performers were dressed in old-school clothes. The opening music was fast-flowing, edged, as well as sharp-edged. It was considered to be an intense, as well as dramatic because of the use of fluctuating dynamics. A sudden change of the piano absorbed the crescendo. While playing the piece, many people who attended were very emotional. The effective use of rests made the piece unique. The music flowed with a great rhythm. The performance was filled with emotions, and most people left the theater disliking the people in power. In some parts of the performance, they showed some naked men who looked scared of the political figures. The coordination of the performers, as well as the music, ensured the show had continuity. As a result, it was more thrilling as well as entertaining. Some parts of the show required the use of instruments such as flute as well as a trumpet which were put to better use.
Overall, I have gained much experience from the performance I have attended. I have gained information about the production of tones as well as instrument management. Additionally, I have seen from the performance that the outcome looks good when organized. By applying the experience gained from the show, it is easy to come up with a live performance that can be appreciated by an audience. I discovered that music could be used in an opera to communicate a certain message (Deutsch 4).
