The Las Vegas Mass Shooting


The unprecedented mass shooting in Las Vegas that happened on October 1, 2017, when a shooter opened fire on more than 20,000 people in the city. Over 58 persons were killed and 546 others suffered gunshot wounds as a result of the incident. The incidents involving the gun shootings occurred between 10:05 and 10:15 p.m., according to the police investigations. Stephen Paddock, the gunman victim, shot his opponent in front of more than a hundred others in his neighboring Mandalay Bay hotel. But Paddock was later discovered dead in his room from a gunshot wound that was thought to have come from his weapon. The gunshot was thought to be the most deadly gun shooting experience which has taken place in the United States soil over an extended period.


Theoretical Perspectives on the Las Vegas Mass Shootings


The theoretical aspects which the order will focus on are functionalism theory and theoretical conflict aspects of the social welfare. Furthermore, both of the academic perspective works together in promoting solidarity in the social growth and development. Conflict theory explains several sectors such as wealth, poverty and discriminations in the community. Both of the theories have impacted in the experienced of Las Vegas mass shootings where over 58 people died and over 548 injured from the experience. This aspect was very severe since it killed and injured innocent members of the society. However, according to the survey which was done by United States forces indicated that the perpetrator was primarily targeting every person in his mission. The victims of the shooting were from different states; in the United States and some of the countries which the victims come from including California and Canada. The victims were transported to hospitals in Nevada and sunrise medical services for treatments.

However, the resident of Las Vegas is comprised of the mixed cultures and religious groups. Most of the victims of the shooting were generally from very dynamic cultures and races, a point which justified that the shot was a terrorist act. Most of the resident of Las Vegas is business owners and entrepreneurs, who trade for products in exchange for money. The symbolic meanings and reality constructions were experienced in the social system created overtime and mental concepts. The following symbolic interactions shape the members of the community to socialize together with the aim of embracing the national unity(Taichman, 14). There are some cases of discrimination among the members of Las Vegas a point that has increased internal conflict in the communities. Furthermore, the symbolic interactions also have developed the thinking and reasoning perspectives of different people in Las Vegas a move that has resulted in population.


Sociologists Research Processes


A sociologist can base their research on the social, political and economic effects of the shootings which took place in Las Vegas. However, they also need to look at the behavior of the accuser about the reason to why he took part in the shooting of the innocent lives. Furthermore, there is need to examine the social-cultural activities which took place in the community structure and its impact on the lives of the members of the community. Sociologist also needs to interview the victims and come up with striking findings of what was the cause of the shootings.


Methods of Collecting Data


However, sociologists will collect data in this community by using the following services, firstly, they will use questionnaires where they pick the respondents in the city and allocate them to questions. They will choose a different category of respondents based on their culture, race, religion and age differences. Secondly, they will use interviews with the respondent, and the respondent will give his or her opinions about the situation in place. Respondents will be grouped and allocated according to the regions and culture they belong to collect the most efficient data. Finally, sociologists will look for relevant internet sources where there is material facts concerning the incidence experienced in the community as a whole.
