Organizational success is the most coveted goal of any firm. Success inside an organization demonstrates how well-organized the organization is or is managed by the numerous stakeholders who comprise the organization. With this, the organization demonstrates a broader picture of how controllable the organization's actions are not only to the people assisting in its success, but also to the external environment. Managing this entails employing appropriate approaches to guarantee that the organization's objectives and goals are established within the time frame specified (Blas). However, the achievement of the success within the organization does not work in isolation since it involves the full cooperation of the management’s effort to ensure the objectives set by the organization are achieved within the stated time.
This process is never easy in any organization due to the myriad number of challenges that the organizations undergo in the process of establishing a wells structured work plan. Organizations are tasked with achieving the objectives and goals of their firms through a collaborative and cooperative engagement all the management team of the firm. The problems that face these organizations are overwhelming making the organizations in unstable states that hinder fulfillment of their set plan for the prosperity of the organizations.
The challenges affecting the daily management operation of organization originate from numerous corners of concerns that relate the activities of the organization. The implication of these concerns affects the organization either directly or indirectly and the effects of these can either be a for a short term or long term. Short-term challenges have their characteristics and the various techniques which the management can put in place to ensure that the challenges are eradicated. On the other hand, long-term challenges involve procedural methods that ensure that the shortcomings ae put to an end or reduced to levels that cannot affect the organization to greater extends. In real-world environment, it is impossible to completely solve all the problems pertaining the activities that surround an organization since other activities generate their shortcomings.
As an administrator of an organization, one has to be keen on factors that actively affect the operation of the firm. Through this, it is easy to establish the cause of the many problems that surround the imperative sectors of the firm and evaluate how the firm can cordially work with the available stakeholders to close the challenges. These are internal administrative challenges that require enough arrangement of internal activities that ensure that the welfare of all individuals helping internal operations to be successful is taken into account. Through this, the challenges can be approached using all the possible techniques of ensuring the challenges diminish to help upheld the strengthen the activities of the organization for the benefit of uplifting the organization success. The administration in this regard has a mandate of ensuring that there is a smooth flow of information between the management to the other stakeholders and vice versa to facilitate the operations of the organization.
In many in instances, internal challenges in an organization are majorly brought up through some miscalculations that the management tend to make with or and without the help of the other members of the organization. The extend of the miscalculation tend to affect the operation of the organization based on some factors that can impact a section of a department and or the department as a whole. In a healthcare organization, these challenges experienced and tend to affect the way the organization operates in some ways. In this case study paper, we shall highlight the internal administrative challenged some non-governmental organizations in the process of discharging their duties and responsibilities (Wells-Dang). The paper will analyze the various sources of challenges that affect our organization with the main areas of concern focusing on strategic plans, annual reports, mission statements, marketing plans among others that have directly or indirectly affected the operation of the organization. In this paper, the non-governmental healthcare organization to be discussed will be Marie Stopes International.
The Background History of Marie Stopes International
This is an international global organization operating in 37 countries and having over 12000 team members. Marie Stopes International began as a single clinic and has grown rapidly over the years into a big organization representing its current state. As a single clinic in London, Marie Stopes International has been able to deliver its mission to the people able to provide high quality, safe abortion services and affordable contraceptives to people across the globe. The international medical service provider has been in place for over 40 years and has touched the lives of many individuals. Through estimation, Marie Stopes International has been able to provide medical services to over 120 million women and girls across the world by equipping them thorough empowerment to be able to take control for the betterment of their future lives. Over the years, the dynamics of service delivery for the organization have kept changing due to the change in the various ways of attending to their clients, and this has caused to change in some specific areas on how they administer their services. In some cases, the increased awareness and other activities related to their service delivery have caused an increase in the number of people in need of their services hence leading to problems in administering the required services on time (Sutton, Robert, and Hayagreeva).
Currently, the organization is committed to increasing its services to wider global geographical areas to help women access their services easily. According to the statistics provided, over 214 million women are in need of the services and the organization is highly committed to delivering the services they are mandated to provide without fail. This is one of their long-term strategies that put into place the need for the future population in facilitating access to safe abortion and contraceptives for women and the national governments. As part of the scaling up plan, this long-term aspiration for this organization needs run in 2017, 2020, 2030 and even beyond for women and governments across the board.
Internal administrative Challenges in an organization
In the quest to provide medical services especially those dealing with contraceptives and safe abortion to women, Marie Stopes International has been faced with a myriad of challenges that tend to hinder its operation. The organization through its strategic plan of developing a need to reach people across the globe has implied differently across the globe. The message of the use of contraceptives and safe abortion to women is still another dilemma in the management of the industry. Through this, it has been impossible for the organization to effectively operate in some areas. For instance, the organization has tried its level best to enrich as many continents as possible. Through this, the organization has gone further to an extend of establishing their clinics in many parts of the countries. A good example is the encroachment of the clinics to the many parts of the Africa continents to help women access to services related to contraceptives and safe abortion. Even though Marie Stopes International clinics have increased, the problem has been on funds to fully and effectively support the program. This has been caused by the fact that the number of clinics has increased greatly with the organization having insufficient funds to support the program to the fullest. This is because the program is a charity program and is funds are depended on whether they charities will be enough to help support the program.
As this happens, the management of the organization has faced a challenge due to less involvement of the various governments in some places. The program has been helpful, and with no government support especially in providing essential services, the activities of the organization seem to be paralyzed. In this regard, the organization has made its efforts to reach people irrespective of their geographical locations. In the process, the management has found it impossible to effectively work in those areas due to the problems that require the government to intervene. For instance, some areas are very insecure with a lot of insecurity issues resulting form the political instability and other factors caused by the environment. In some areas, the infrastructure is very low making it unable for the organization to effectively operate its daily activities. Some of these factors include the poor road transportation network and inability to effectively communicate hence passing out the data and information obtained from the fields. To facilitate this, it has made the organization to dip further into their pockets by enhancing means that will ensure that the members of the organization can work with minimal problems. These costs affect the operation of the organization in trying to ensure affordable and safe contraceptives and abortion services is provided to their clients.
Besides, we have seen situations where the society and community members in some parts are refuse to subscribe to the services of the organization. As a primary objective of offering safe abortion and contraceptives, some families that live in traditional era have refused to subscribe to the services of Marie Stores International. Some tend to be easily misguided by the few elites on the dangerous side of the services offered by the organization guided by lack of knowledge about the services. This gives the management a hard task in trying to convince the women on the benefit of subscribing to the services of the organizations. In some societies across the globe, their governments have not legalized safe abortions, and this becomes difficult for the members of the organization to sell their products and services in such communities. In such cases, the society perceives the members of the organization as those who have the intentions of destroying the lives of their people especially women.
In line with this, some societies still believe in traditional means of healing and cannot easily subscribe to any form of medication that makes use of scientific methods of heling or prevention. In the process of Marie Stops selling its products and services, it has been difficult for the societies to accept the services and products due to the strong traditional beliefs. This implies that Marie Stops International is majorly aimed at helping women access to medical services that included contraceptives and safe abortions. Convincing women living in the traditional era where the man has the final say on the activities of the house is difficult. The management, therefore, has to make use of the "the house heads" to help service their women with the services offered. In some cases, when a man accepts his wife to enroll in the service, then the woman as no any other option even if she is not willing to the products and services of the organization.
Religious leaders in some extend have been seen quoting the products and services offered by the organization not good for Christians. According to them, some have gone to an extend of claiming that the use of condoms and providing of safer abortion services as one of the services that go against the teachings of their Holy Books. Through such messages to their people, the management has been hard on promoting the services and products in areas where there are strong believers of such religions. This in return has caused a lot of people opposing the services and products provided by the organizations hence becoming difficult for the management to effectively continue implementing their strategic programs of offering contraceptive and safer abortion to women from such areas. The consequences of these causes discrimination and even ejection of some women who tend to associate themselves with the products and services seem to be rejected by the majority of the members of the society. On the side of the organization, it becomes a mere time wasting.
More so, the management is challenged the illiteracy levels in some places across the globe. The illiteracy levels have contributed to the strong utilization of people’s myths and beliefs within societies hence people resisting the services related to contraceptives and safer abortions. This is guided by the insufficient knowledge about the services they are likely to undergo through the use propaganda caused by insufficient knowledge about contraceptives and safe abortions. Failure to understand or to prematurely judge someone who underwent the process due to the side effects caused by hormonal imbalance can also be a determining factor for the challenge the administrators face while trying to reach out to their clients for the services. Myths and Misconception, in this case, tend to limit the administrative function of the organization to meet as many clients as possible irrespective of how interior from towns and illiterate they maybe.
Furthermore, education is a very imperative weapon that can be used to help the administrations of the organization. In some places, the managerial challenge related to this include the inability of the clients having the required knowledge about contraceptives and safer abortion techniques. The knowledge and information, therefore, hinders proper application and use of the services associated with the services of the firm. In return, the organization suffers in many ways due to the difficulties it encounters in facilitating the service delivery to its customers. This may involve putting the organization in financial extremities since the firm will involve making unnecessary expenditures to educate the people about the importance, the use and the related effects of affordable contraceptives and safer abortion part of the main a gender of the organization.
Last but not least, the management might be having problems dealing with the passing of information from one person to another using the simplest language the clients can understand. The management of an organization is likely to be facing problems related to the education system of the country or a region. When the schools at either lower or senior level in a school do not offer education that is related to sexuality, then there is the higher possibility of meeting the society members who are illiterate as far as sexuality and all the related concepts ae concerned. In the process, the problem is transferred to the administration that needs to make proper plans to ensure that the clients are educated on the various concepts related to sexuality and the services the organization offers. Offering education to the clients may be expensive and involving hence requiring the use of additional cash that might not have been planned for by the organization. In the process, the management might find itself struggling to the balance the equation arising from the excessive use of cash on projects they might not have planned for (Steiner, Catherine, and Teresa). Fulfilling of other managerial activities, roles and responsibilities might be affected hence pausing a challenge that affects the operation activities of the organization. Example of such activities includes payment of employees and fulfillment of other petty cash programs such as fueling of the firm's vehicles.
Analysis of the Organization
The organization is trying its level best to work in line with its set strategies. The main strategy of the organization is to be able to provide medical services that involve safe abortions and the use of contraceptives to women. Through this, the organizations look at the larger picture of ensuring the welfare of the women is taken into accounts. Working together with women across the globe contributes to the making of the name Marie Stopes International. Again, the strategic objective of the organization is well established with the aim of reaching out to women for the purpose effecting an active use of safe abortion and contraceptives. These techniques have been made available to the women to help them relieve themselves of the hard tasks and risks they use to encounter regarding sexuality (Paul, Steve, Lynn, David, Phillip, and Mitchell).
The organization is aimed at safeguarding the lives of women that have been kept at risk since interception. Women ae important participants of our economies and their lives matters before, during and after birth. Their roles are distinct with their impact felt in the life time. It is imperative to make proper and full utilization of the basic ways through which the lives of women can be protected and safeguarded before, during and after birth. Through this, the organization has made a move to create many clinics that will offer the healthcare products and services at their disposal.
The healthcare firm is helping and still helps the societies to raise their children in the most appropriate way that will ensure children are brought up in the best conditions that involve their parents. The organization recognizes the need for proper parental care especially the mother through emphasizing on the various aspects that their products and services are enjoined. Before the services, abnormalities in women during pregnancy could guarantee the death of the parent. After the services, it is crystal clear that pregnancy can be safely be terminated to save the life of the mother.
Furthermore, the family planning methods employed by the organization are there to ensure that women together with their men can do child spacing. Giving birth at short intervals is not only dangerous but also can endanger the health status of a parent. Through the products and services provided at the healthcare, it is evident that women can decide to make a good children spacing that will help boost the health status of the woman after delivery. This is done to ensure that the woman fully recovers after giving birth and she is strong enough to carry the next pregnancy after birth. The essence of child spacing gives the family as a whole an advantage to effectively manage the family through the provision of basic care due to the ability to offer basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, education among others. These results from a well manageable family that is directly natured through the products and services of the organization.
Recommendations on the future directions on internal administrative challenges
According the evaluation of the stated challenges affecting the operation of the organization, the following serve as some of the recommendations to help reduce the challenges. Firstly, the organization requires enough funding, the firm will be able to meet some of its related expenses, and that will ensure the products and services of the organization are effectively assured to the people. The government in place can also support these activities by setting up infrastructure, social amenities that help other healthcare organizations carry out its activities.
Offering education to the members of the society who are the target group for the organization can be done to ease acceptance and participation into services and products that will help improve the lives of other people. Education may be done in several ways. One of the methods is by including the men to help them understand the need to help their women participate in the activities. The management through the help of some people from the society can help pass on the information about the importance of the services and products from the organization. The local people will be used to give confidence to their people to actively participate in the program. This can be done in open forums, schools, seminars and other ways that can help administer the efficiency of the program to continue offering products and services to the people.
The organization can also come up with practical methods that will ensure there is the collaboration between the various stakeholders. The management should employ its marketing strategies effectively to sooth people to come and join the movement. This should be done through the use of appropriate methods that will create positivity within people in the society. This should be done in wells structured manner that tend to convince and invite the people into subscribing to their products and services (Orr).
However, the organization can be made more inclusive to attract as many people as possible. Initially, the healthcare seems to be working for women majorly by helping them access to safer abortion and contraceptive products and services. As we speak, there is need to involve men in these activities since they are part and parcel of the problems that face women. In fact, the use of contraceptives in the modern world will work better for men than female on the preventive perspective. For instance, involving men to take part in some of the use of contraceptives in addition to women will be a great deal of facilitating family planning. Also, the organization through offering other pre-natal and post-natal services to help monitor their client's progress and in return advising them further on the measures to take while using their products and service. This services will ensure the client is kept in touch for a longer time being able to guide him/her adequately about the ongoing processes or activities. The management, on the other hand, will be obtaining data directly from the clients helping them to come up with other ways of helping future complications if there is any. Reporting n their proceedings to their international headquarters will also be very easy to the presence of respondents.
In conclusion, the healthcare organization has numerous activities to undertake to ensure there is a smooth running of the organization. This will be ensured through the application that tends to educate the public who are their clients. Through education, all the other aspects affecting the operation of the organization will be minimized and the firm will likely have to improve its performance. However, the management has a big role to play to ensure that the current challenges are done within the organization. This will help the organization progress smoothly. By using the recommendations listed, the organization is likely to achieve even to greater extends that it could expect. The problems listed in the paper could be done with easily by relocating the small branches of the firm into metropolitan areas or areas that are easily connected concerning infrastructure.
