Intel CPUs vs. AMD Processors

The Advanced Micro Device Corporation

The Advanced Micro Device Corporation manufactures semiconductors, motherboards, CPUs, microchips, and other computer hardware. After Intel, it is the second-largest manufacturer of computer hardware. The Intel Corporation was a pioneer in computer technology research and development. The company was established in 1968 in the Valley, California, and now has production facilities in China, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia. Nonetheless, while having distinct capabilities and competing for the same market share, Intel and AMD devices are available everywhere in the world. The businesses must also adjust with the times in order to survive. The products from Intel and AMD are distinct from one another. In the area of corporate computing, the article will contrast and compare Intel and AMD.

Multi-Core vs. Hyper Threading

The Central Processing Unit (CPU) or processor is the engine or brain of a computer. The process is an expensive component in the computer as it cost four times greater than the motherboard. The Intel Company created the first microprocessor in 1971 for the IBM Company (Mazidi, Mazidi & Causey, 2010). These early computer processors came with single cores meaning a single brain of the computer. The computers could only calculate a single thing at a time and took a longer period to complete a task. Research and development led to the introduction of Hyper Threading on the high-end CPU thus allowed simultaneous processing (Patterson & Hennessy, 2007). The development looked faster and efficient and it makes the processor become busier. It is essential to note that the Hyper Threading was a unique invention of Intel and not AMD.

The AMD and Intel introduced the first multicore processors in 2005. The chip effectively held 2 or more processors. The multi-core processor in comparison to Hyper Threading produced more power (Patterson & Hennessy, 2007). Subsequently, the chip enabled independent logic processing. Today, the Intel Company has the ability to offer multi-core processors containing Hyper Threading on both low and high-end CPUs. AMD offer processors with multi cores only and do not have the Hyper Threading. according to Adomavicius and Gupta (2009), the business computing system requires the multi core processors and more threads to effectively serve the customers.

Value

The AMD offer the computer processing chips at a lower price compared to Intel. For instance, the Athlon XP processors have a close capability to Intel 4 processor but are about half the price. The cheapest chips from AMD include the Athlon, A-series, Sempron dual core processors estimated at $30. The Celeron G1820 duo-core processor from Intel Company starts at $ 45. Similar pricing appears as one goes up the performance ladder. The Intel, however, offer a little higher price as it provides extra power. The Intel beat the AMD in terms of releasing processors to customers at a faster rate. The Intel Company has low TDP chipset on the motherboard thus increase efficiency. The AMD processors edge out Intel products in terms of speed and low price points. However, the AMD processors consume more power compared to Intel processors.

Game performance and other computer application

The computer CPU determines computer games to be installed on the PC. The ADM Company offer APU processors meaning the chip combines Radeon graphics. ADM is excellent value for the low-end gaming. The Intel Company processors have on-die integrated graphics but cannot match the ADM’s Radeon graphics. However, it is important to note that Intel’s chips perform faster and has the capability to drag down a high-end computer game. The i7 and i5 processors significantly contain the high-end graphic cards thus serve the business organization in an effective manner. There is other features business should look for other than games and fun. Overclocking is another feature of enthusiast processors or CPUs.

Overclocking

The business organizations look at the clock speed of the processors. The figures such as 2.7GHz and 4.5GHZ are essential in comparing the functionality of different computers. The ADM and Intel offer unlocked processors with various price points. It is AMD that produce a more reputable and overclock-friendly CPU. The chips from AMD are mid-range capabilities compared to overclocked chips from Intel. The Ryzen 7 1800X is the latest octa-core processor. Other Ryzen processors include X370 chipsets which give business organizations a broad range of options for AMD’s overclockers.

Conclusion

The AMD offer the computer processing chips at a lower price compared to Intel. Similar pricing appears as one goes up the performance ladder. The Intel chip and processors shine in the higher end of the spectrum. The processor has flexible performance due to lighting speed, beautiful graphics, and incredible capability. The AMD processors cannot beat Intel processors in terms of outright speed. The Intel Company has the ability to offer multi-core processors containing Hyper Threading on both low and high-end CPUs. AMD offer processors with multi cores only and do not have the Hyper Threading. The Intel, however, offer a little higher price as it provides extra power. The Intel chips will best fit the business computing system due to the multi core processors that assist in effective and interrupted business transactions.
