Culture of India


Culture is defined as the feature and the information of a certain assemblage of people, who share the same religion, language, social behaviors, cuisine, music as well as arts. In addition, it encompasses what we dress in, how we dress in it, beliefs, and how we receive and greet visitors. Culture is determined as an evolutionary process to mean it evolves over time. In a society, it is normally passed on from generation to generation thus its continued existence. In a way, it is a symbolic communication whereby some of the symbols include attitudes, knowledge, intentions, and worth. Respective institutions deliberately teach the meaning of the specified symbols in the community. Culture is; therefore, termed as the communal programming in the mind which differentiates the members of a specific category or group of persons from another group. However, this paper seeks to review the culture of the Indians which has existed for a very long period of time.



Indian Language and Religion


Firstly, India has a total of seven territories and twenty-eight states and has no official language as ruled by the Gujarat High Court in 2010 (Pereira and Malik 2015). However, Hindi is regarded as the official language used by the government in the offices and the constitution identifies with twenty-three languages in India that are termed as official. Even though a good number of people in India speak in Hindi, a good percentage also speak different languages such as Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Urdu, and Bengali amongst others. Secondly, India has a religious culture as it is recognized as the birthplace of Buddhism and Hinduism. Moreover, 14% of Indians are Muslims thus making it one of the largest Islamic countries in the universe. Sikhs and Christians occupy a very small percentage of the total population left. Hindu, therefore takes up the larger stake at 80% of the total population.



Indian Cuisine and Art


Additionally, Indian culture has also been linked to their cuisine (Sarkar, Dhumal, Panigrahi and Choudhary 2015). It is believed that Indian food is influenced by several different countries. It is majorly known for its wide variety of dishes as well as its profuse use of spices and herbs. However, their methods of cooking vary from region to region. Some of India's staple foods include Basmati rice, wheat, and pulses with chana. Their foods are often rich in spices and curries such as coriander, ginger, turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, and hot dried peppers. Some of the herbs used include chutneys which are a thick-condiments made from varied fruits and some vegetables which include tomatoes, cilantro, and mint amongst others. India is also known for art and architecture. The profusely known form of architecture in India is Taj Mahal which combines rudiments from Persian, Islamic and Ottoman Turkish (Tillotson 2014). In addition, India also has several antique temples. Its film industry known as Bollywood gives it the popularity in terms of art which began in 1898 and are well known for their intricate dancing and music. Indians clothing is known for its colorful silk saris that are worn by the women while for men put on Dhoti and kurta which is a knee-length loose shirt.



Overview of Indian Culture


India is therefore known for its widely unique culture which has efficiently been passed on from one generation to the other. According to their culture, no group is considered superior to the other. The Indians are taught the importance of appreciating another one's culture hence the relativism leads to harmony in the society. However, just like in any other culture, the Indian's culture also manifests itself in various ways and different levels of depths. The various symbols signify the fundamental and valuables of the deepest appearances of their culture inclusive of rituals and heroes coming in between.



Indian Management practices


The concept of management in the west formally came up as a result of the process of evolution. It was based on the varying worth systems of the people such as the political, social, economic, cultural and educational environment. However, historically, India, was a closed economy. The notion was that once the economy unbolts, large multinationals would take over. However, that did not happen as the Indian businesses positively reacted to the foundation of the economy. The capital structures were improved, good management skills were also introduced and within a period of time, they became professionals globally as well. India has a few exclusive ways that can be linked to Indian managers and how businesses are carried out in India. This paper seeks to validate how management practices in India are carried out from day to day.



Family-Managed Businesses


Firstly, Indian companies unlike in other countries are largely managed by families (Jain and Moreno 2015). An Indian entrepreneur in all instances tends to stay by his business all the time till its end and seldom delegates managerial duties to someone else. In addition, it is also a norm in India for the promoter's children to take over the businesses. The issues of legacy, therefore, are much stronger in India than in any other country. However, they also realize the need for professionally trained managers hence it is evident that they imply both professional managers and promoter way of running their businesses. This results in a combination of organizational competencies that the management does and the culture of the company that makes Indian premises to be different from the firms in other countries. Furthermore, the Indian enterprises are also known for good employee involvement, the capability to extemporize and innovatively deliver goods to clients and lastly the undertakings that go beyond distributing business partners' value.

Secondly, India has developed excellent talent on management and has majorly been established by the Indian Institutes of Management graduates (Cooke, Saini and Wang 2014). The younger students work together with the older experts thus bringing forth desirable managerial skills. In addition, Indian managers are innovative and work in a complex, unpredictable environment that helps shape them to survive under any circumstance. This equips them with the knowledge of how to move in an ever-changing environment, a growing policy context, corruption, poor infrastructure that affects the smooth operational flow of financial and physical maneuvers. Moreover, Indian managers know how to handle the obstacles they come across such as lack of enough resources.



Conclusion


Management in India, therefore, is an amalgam of practices that were borrowed from the West and Japan and developed in India over time. The working environment and managerial culture are the core factors that contribute to the long-term success of Indian companies. The company managers work round the clock to ensure they give the best at managing the premises. This is because when a premise is doing very well, credit is often given to the management and the respective employees thus the need to work as a team and bring forward good results.
