For some years, the issue of immigration has been a problem to the residents of Texas. Although various strategies have been implemented to address the problem, it appears that little has been achieved, and therefore the House of Representatives need to introduce a debate and also come up with policies which can address this problem. Being a legislator, you can play a crucial role in addressing this issue and this is the reason why I have found it right to pen this letter to you. According Katherine (70), one in six of the Texas residents is immigrant, and almost 15 percent of the people in this state are native-Americans with at least one immigrant parent. From these statistics, it is clear that immigration is an alarming social issue and therefore it needs to be addressed before things get worse.
Immigration being one of the powerful forces in the history of Texas has made the residents to experience various difficulties. For example, due to the high number of people who migrate to this state, the population has been growing with few schools being present, a factor which has led to overcrowding in classrooms and improper teacher-student ratio. Immigration has also discouraged native high school completion due to excessive competition for schooling resources.
Immigration in this state has also reduced the quality of education in various ways. For example, if immigrants and natives are taught in the same class, the teachers are forced to slow pace of instruction in some subjects so as to accommodate the non-native speakers (Michael 234). Additionally, if the immigrants had been exposed to low-quality education in their native countries, or have less education than the natives, the teacher is likely to lower expectations for all students.
Apart from education, Immigration has also crippled economic growth in this state as most of the immigrants get access to the resources but in rare cases engage in economic development activities because most of them lack the required qualifications which can enable them to attain jobs or lack capital which can enable them to start businesses. This factor has made the natives to live in bad economic conditions irrespective of paying taxes and also engaging in activities which can play a crucial role in economic development.
One of the measures which can be used to address this issue is presenting a bill in the House of Representatives that puts proper restricts for illegal immigration. The bill should require people who migrate to not only Texas but also other states to have good reasons for leaving their native countries. The reason why targeting all people is crucial is that immigrants move from their native countries to other states in the U.S and later migrate to Texas.
Considering the fact that immigration has a serious impact on education, it is advisable to use the development funds to come up with more schools that will be able to accommodate the growing population which has been triggered by the excessive number of people who migrate to this state. Additionally, it is also advisable to come up with different schools for students with varying learning capabilities.
It is also advisable for the Congress to debate on some of the measures which can be used to ensure that there is strict border security so that it can be possible to identify illegal immigrants before they enter the country. Additionally, it is also advisable to identify illegal immigrants in this state and find out ways which can be used to send them back to their origin but in a human manner.
When these strategies are implemented, the state is likely to realize various outcomes. The most important one, in this case, is that when the development funds are used to build more schools in this state, the growing class population in most of the schools will be addressed. Also, the escalating competition for the available schooling resources which has made the rate of high school dropouts to increase in the state will also reduce.
According to Katherine (69), one of the factors which have lowered the quality of education in this state is mixing immigrant students with natives. This means that if the state will use the development funds to build different schools for natives and immigrants, there are chances that the quality of education will increase because the teachers will be able to teach students based on their capabilities without affecting other learners.
Sending back the illegal immigrants back to their origin will be fundamental because it can assist the state to realize economic growth and proper distribution of resources. It can also make the state to do away with the challenge of excess population growth which is majorly attributed to excess immigration.
By considering the stated impacts of immigration in this state, it is evident that this is a serious issue that is worth being given a lot of attention, and being the only hope for the residents in this state, the stated solutions can play a crucial role in assisting you to address the issue. Kindly help the residents in this state to overcome the challenges which have resulted from the high rate of immigration.
