Human Resource Management in Healthcare
Human resource (HR) management is without a doubt one of the most important foundations in providing great healthcare to the public. HR specialists are thus entrusted with ensuring proper workforce management in order to fulfill company goals. HR professionals encounter a variety of problems when carrying out their tasks in healthcare. One of the most significant of these difficulties is the shortage of caregivers (doctors and nurses etc). Most hospital HR departments are struggling to recruit and retain skilled employees (Flynn, Mathis, Jackson, & Valentine, 2015). Because of the many social dynamics, epidemics, and lifestyles that increase the likelihood of becoming ill, the need for healthcare is continually increasing. Population growth and the increased need to access healthcare are other factors that can be attributed to enlarged demand for health services. Such expanded demands coupled with the shortages of the doctors and nurses pose a serious challenge for HR professionals who must constantly source and retain qualified staff to ensure smooth operations of the organization.
The Changing Role of HR Professionals
Change in the role of the HR professionals is necessary to adapt to the ever-changing dynamics environment. In the next few years, the role of healthcare HR department will evolve to comply with various health policies and reforms (Flynn et al., 2015). The ACA, for instance, require compliance and reporting to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The new role of the HR managers is thus to accurately track the employees and their work hours regarding the health benefits. The evolution of the role of the HR managers may also be noted in an attempt to comply with the various international, regional and or national labor Acts and laws that regulate working in healthcare settings.
