General William Tecumseh Sherman and his Role in the American Civil War
Between 1820 and 1891, General William Tecumseh Sherman was a combatant and a businessman. During the American Civil War, he fought in the American Union Army and was acknowledged as the top military leader at the time. He engaged the insurgents in combat and drove them back to the territories. (Barkin, 2008).
Shaping the United States of America
The United States of America was engaged in a conflict that had the potential to split it during the time of General William Tecumseh Sherman. He spearheaded the battle for the continued unity of the USA. He is one of the individuals responsible for shaping the USA into what it is today. During the civil war, the Northern states wanted to separate from the Southern states, and the war was led by some Native American, the Indians. He helped the president, Grant to hold the country together (Harris, 1964).
Contributions to Freedom and Unity
The freedom and unity enjoyed today can be contributed to the effort of this brave general who sacrificed and risked his life to ensure that the USA is what it is today. At the time of the war, during the fight for secession led by South Carolinas, he approached one of the influential leaders of the secession, Professor David F. Boyd and warned him that they do not know what they are doing and that they will drench the country in blood. He did not like the war as a solution to a problem like this one, so he tried to talk to David Boyd to ask his people to drop the secession idea.
