The social problem that women are addressing is gender inequality and its devastating effects on women. Usually, women in various countries are still facing numerous barriers in the quest for social, economic and political emancipation. Stereotypical beliefs prevent women from exploiting their full potential (what stands in the way of women being equal to men? BBC News, 2014).
2. In what ways do they address this/these issues? What actions do they take?
The women are addressing the issue of gender inequality through agitating for the change of societal perceptions on the roles of men and women in society (what stands in the way of women being equal to men? BBC News, 2014). They are aggressively seeking equal treatment in all aspects of life.
3. Do you find their gender as being a barrier to their goals? Explain and provide examples.
Yes, gender is a significant obstacle in the attainment of their goals. Most of the women feel barred from pursuing some of their individual goals, particularly in areas perceived to be male-dominated (what stands in the way of women being equal to men? BBC News, 2014). For instance, women are not supposed to engage in some games or social activities especially past certain hours in the night.
4. What barriers do the women face and how do they overcome them?
Lack of adequate legislation to address the concerns of women in society is one of the barriers. Most countries have failed to formulate and implement laws aimed at tackling gender inequality. Additionally, societal expectations on how women should carry themselves out are a significant threat in the attainment of freedom of women. Besides, gender stereotypes also impact negatively on women. However, women are currently leveraging on numerous approaches to avert the situation. For example, Lulu intents to demand equal treatment across the gender divide (what stands in the way of women being equal to men? BBC News, 2014). Moreover, women are ignoring the old societal expectations which try to judge how they dress or how they carry themselves in the society.
5. Lastly, do you believe the women in the video are stronger and more equipped to tackle difficult social issues than other women countries? Why or why not?
Girls in the video are more equipped in countering the problematic social issues. Unlike other women in other countries, they are quite determined to break the stereotypical barriers that prevent them from achieving their dreams; for example, Lulu vows to fight for a rightful position in society regardless of her gender (what stands in the way of women being equal to men? BBC News, 2014). Some women are prepared to challenge the tradition that prevents them from leaving homestead after certain hours in the night.
