In this editorial, the author aims to evaluate the concept of body ink in relation to the workplace. According to the article, body tattoos are on the rise and they have become rather like a rite of passage to many Americans. Different tattoos portray different personalities and thus some employers are relatively sceptical with the size and design of the tattoo when interviewing potential employees. As per the author, "designs of flowers and butterflies are deemed comparatively acceptable". Small sized tattoos are also acceptable in some workplaces as they do not portray an individual in bad light. The writer further points out that large body tattoos are deemed unsavoury and the individual perceived as a insubordinate character. In fact, the author feels that people with such body inks are more likely to be subjected to anachronistic prejudice. Further, he points out that unsavoury tattoos are the reason why many trying out for the military are turned away; he points out that, "Major Tyler's battalion is turning away 50 tattooed people per week."
