Bleak House by Charles Dickens
Bleak House is a novel by Charles Dickens. It first appeared in serial form between 1852 and 1853. The novel features many characters and several sub-plots, and it is partially told by the heroine Esther Summerson, as well as the omniscient narrator. If you've never read it, you should consider doing so. The story is set in the English countryside, and the narrator, Sir Leicester Dedlock, is an eccentric old man with a very bleak outlook.

The setting of George's Shooting Gallery in Bleak House is further extended in chapter 21. The omniscient narrator travels to a shooting gallery, George's Shooting Gallery, to visit an old friend. Although it is a casual setting, the shooting gallery becomes significant during the last installment. Here, the narrator introduces a new character, trooper George.
Ada
Ada Clare is the ward of the court, sent to live in Bleak House when her fortunes are tied in the Jarndyce case. Ada falls in love with Richard Carstone, a distant cousin. Carey Mulligan played Ada in the BBC adaptation in 2005. The novel is a powerful study of family bonds and the importance of family heritage. But the story is not all about love and loss. Ada also deals with grief and loss.
