Bachelor of Business Hospitality Management at William Blue College

Undertaking the course Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management) at William Blue will help me realize my dream. It has been the ultimate goal of my objectives that one day I will become a Sommelier for a fine dining restaurant. I have always had this immense interest in wines and drinks, of how they are served and their compatibility with the meal to be served with. To achieve my dream, I have development goals in line with my coursework. I have set my mind to always concentrate on the priorities which I have put in place so that at the end of the year I will have to close-check what I have really achieved, this will ensure that am always at my toes to make sure that I stick to the set goals and principles.


Priority


I will ensure that weekly I learn a new type of wine, its components and the type of meal that can be served best with. Occasionally, I will have to do some research and try developing some new wine on my own.


What activities do I need to undertake to achieve my objectives?


Routinely, each month I have to visit a hotel where there are Sommeliers and talk to them about the service. If by chance am given an opportunity to work under sommeliers supervision I count it a plus to me. I ensure that weekly I learn a new type of wine, its components and which meal can be served best with. Occasionally, I have to do some research and try developing some new wine, with this invention will come and some new wine will be introduced in the market. Customer service is another aspect that I have always been learning, this to ensure that I can communicate effectively and deliver services in the best way. Volunteering will also help a lot, I plan to do this at William Blue Dining. I will do side courses on sommelier. The activities above ensures that I acquire the necessary skills required in my field of study and so that I can achieve the set goals. ( Noddings, 2015)


Which Strengths will best support the achievement my objective and Career Goal?


By use of the Clifton Strengths Finder assessment, I discovered that I can make a good manager. Some of the qualities of a good manager include the positive attitude, prioritization, empathy, accountability, and honesty. (Block, 2016) A positive attitude is what push things to happen in the right way. Mastery of positive attitude is very significant even at a time when things seem tough. Prioritization is the seclusion of tasks to be worked upon according to their urgency and bulkiness. It is important to do this so that to meet set targets in time.( Fifield, 2015) Empathy is the consideration of the people one works with, they must know you care for them and you want the best for them, in doing this you will motivate them and they maintain the spirit of teamwork. Accountability and honesty are the other important traits that I love, they ensure that one does a clean job and less supervision is needed for people with such mannerisms.( Hargreaves, 2017) Having all these traits and being self-disciplined will play a great impact in my realization of my career and dreams.


What support/resources do I need to achieve my objectives?


Realization of dreams involves a combination of several things. To point a few, it includes family support, advice from mentors and specialists and lastly good instructors. (Johnson, 2015) When the above team works together without discord, then the result of this is the eminent success. A good family and friends provide love and motivation. When one gets discouraged on something or even achieving a certain goal, the family members are always there to give you the motivation which one needs. Moreover, financial support mostly comes from the family and friends. (Clark, 2015) Mentors play a big role in ensuring that the people looking unto them realize their dreams as they themselves have. Similarly, tutors and specialists play the same role by ensuring that a person acquires all the skills required in a certain field. Finally, it is crucial to trust on a divine being, God who is the source of everything that we have. All the above support is amongst what I require to achieve my set goals and dreams. (Susskind & Susskind, 2015)


The target date for achieving my objectives


I expect to have completed my course of study from William Blue College by December 2019. This when I will achieve my first degree.


After this, I will directly venture to specialize on my career to become a sommelier. Hopefully, I expect to work a fully qualified sommelier by year 2024.

I will be reviewing my set goals and objectives at the end of every six months to ensure that I fully fulfill them without failure.

William Blue Dining at the Rocks with provide me with the necessary skills that I require to become a sommelier. Other skills which I will obtain include; food preparation, presentation and sanitation, event planning and marketing, kitchen organization and stocking, recipe and menu design.( Croce & Perri,2017) My training over there will be a great impact on my career and will influence my whole career life for a lifetime.


Job titles


I anticipate to have worked in the below departments within the hotel before realization of my set career goal. First, I will work as a waitress in the front office where I will serve the customers, this is normally the initial point before being promoted or shifted to other levels. Afterwards work as a Front office assistant manager, where I will coordinate reservation and assignment of rooms in the reception. Also as a general Assistant manager, where I will be responsible for supervision of the different departments and also responsible for tackling emergency occurrence. Then as a Steward, which means to be the head of hotel arrangements and see to it that everything is in order in the food department (Côté &Fenn, 2014). Last but not least, as a Food and beverage manager, which entails planning, organizing and controlling the work of the catering department. This sector becomes hectic especially during parties and convections. (Deal, Dickey & Lewis, 2015) Finally, working as a beverage manager will give me the opportunity to train as a Sommelier which will be my ultimate goal.
