The Impact of Technology and Scientific Research on Society
The development of new technology and continuing scientific research are changing how people view the world. In reality, it has caused a significant decline in the fundamental academic standards in western countries, which has made science less important for human sociocultural progress. This persuasive essay demonstrates how anti-scientific myths are propagated using science, such as the idea that increased commercial CO2 emissions are to blame for global warming. Global warming is typically described in articles and periodicals as a situation of gradual rise in the Earth's ocean and atmosphere's average temperature. Importantly, there exist well-defined approaches to enable me distinguish irrelevant scientific journals and scientifically sound articles of value depending on two factors. First, the authors’ emotion in that if they rely on their emotionally-charged rhetoric tactics to persuade the audience the overall article will reveal their discussion fallacies. Secondly, the use of sophisticated words which lack significant meaning because there interpretation depends on readers willingness. In this case, the essay will be based on the term Anthropocene which refers to the existing geological epoch across the world at a period when increased human activities are seen as major influences on the climate and the environment. The lengthy discussion about the topic is backed up by evidence from the various article on "Anthropocene." Moreover, the essay elaborates the idea that global warming is a result of neither the influentially and superiority of human beings.
Bello's Argument on Human Nature and CO2 Emissions
Bello, in his article Welcome to the Anthropocene, succeeded in showing how human beings are innately wicked due to their continuous emission of industrial CO2 in the air. According to Bello (18), the continuous oil extraction done down underground and burning of substances releases substantial CO2 which will trap heat for a longer period and compared to the years the coming generations will stay on the planet. Unfortunately, the article lacks substantial legitimacy in explaining how CO2 traps the heat. The conclusion of the articles assumes that the readers lack basic physics knowledge that large concentration of CO2 acts as a coolant of the planet earth.
Human Responsibility for Climate Change
Bello's ideologies seem to back up the earlier article written in 2010 by an anonymous writer and titled; Have We Entered the “Anthropocene”? The fundamental thinking of the writer also views human beings as wicked, and they should be blamed for the climatic changes being experienced across the globe. The writer accuses human beings of releasing a large number of toxic substances in the air which have in turn led to depletion of the ozone layer. However, there exists significant truth in this claim. It is true human beings activities have increased remittance of chemicals which have adversely affected the ecosystem. Plants are not able to sufficiently purify the through their biological functioning due to chemicals in both soil and air environment. The main problem with this arguments is that they lack proven data or effective simulations to depict the mechanistic behind the findings.
Efforts to Preserve the Environment
In 2013, Ginger Strand wrote an article about Beware the Rainmakers to illustrate the efforts human beings are deploying to preserve the degrading environment. In this article, the author shows how human beings highly value the environment and views Anthropocene as a concept with insignificant accommodation in daily lives of individuals. According to Strand (39), aspects of global warming from increased human activities can be controlled because it is not easy to live without the causative processes. For instance, it is well known that oil extraction and other industrial activities pollute our environment at a higher rate. At the same time, it is difficult to live without manufactured food and other equipment and oil products. Therefore, individuals have rational thinking and have placed necessary measures to control excessive emission of CO2 and other harmful substances.
The Responsibilities of Human Beings in Managing the Planet
James Speth in his article Will Branding Help 2013, gives an exemplified version of global warming and the responsibilities of human beings. In this article, Speth (40) gives credit where it deserves by claiming that the action of human beings have a significant impact on natural processes and they cannot run away from managing the planet. Despite being based on common sense, Speth communicates that the degradation of the environment is the responsibility of human beings. Therefore, whether acting as causative or influencers of global warming, individuals must play the role of mitigating these adverse impacts. Moore (19), shares the same perspective with Speth claiming that human beings have doomed themselves through destroying the prospects of other beings leading to their continuous death. Moore words are more sentimental but throw the blame of the extinction of various animal and plant species to human beings. However, she admits that the Anthropocene claims of global warming do not make a lot of sense due to lack of substantial evidence.
Conclusion
Most of the above arguments indicate that human influence on the flow of natural processes is adversely affecting global climate. In one way, the arguments can be viewed economic activity where individuals are after money. For instance, the Kyoto Protocol where CO2 quotas are being traded regarding billions of dollars. It can also be seen as a way of preventing developing countries from becoming industrialist due to CO2 emission regulations. However, when supported by strong scientific proof and real climatic examples like desertification and increased the temperature on the earth, the articles depicts sound claims that human activities are destabilizing the ecosystem and they must be responsible for mitigating the adverse impacts.
