Analysis of the Concept of Self-Motivation

One of the puzzling topics handled by behaviorist is the element of motivation and the impact it has on the basic functioning of an individual. Over the years theorists have come up with numerous concepts which they maintain will aid in understanding the role of motivation and the factors involved(Gross, 2015). In this case, we analyze the element of self-motivation in tasks. Behaviorists have noted there is an occurrence where individuals tend to exhibit self-motivation regardless of the context, and their determination remains fixed without consideration of the underlying circumstances.

In the analysis of the concept of motivation as provided by Ormrod (2016), we can understand the aspect of self-motivation and how it applies to different contexts by comprehending the subject of motivation. The question posed is whether it is possible to overcome the trend of self-motivation where an individual develops their own mastery goals despite the provided circumstances. First, motivation works in tow basis, intrinsic and extrinsic(Ormrod, 2016). Intrinsic motivation applies where the origin of the motivation is contained within the task or the individual. On the other hand, extrinsic motivation follows a different approach where the source of motivation exists outside the task or individual(Ormrod, 2016). By applying the concept of extrinsic motivation, we can suggest that the context cannot be overcome since the self-motivation discussed in the presented case observes the functioning of extrinsic motivation(Gross, 2015). As an addition to the extrinsic motivation which applies in the identified case, it is evident that the scenario also adheres to the drive reduction. By utilizing the drive reduction theory(Ormrod, 2016), we can recognize that an individual tends to maintain a particular state of functioning which influences their actions when it comes to self-motivation.
