Analysis of Scenario Two

According to Vaught (2011)

Schools have been centers of perpetuating social inequalities including racial oppression and this continues to be a longstanding debt with deep social, economic and political implication in the society and the public education sector. A diverse society and culture can only thrive in the appreciation of the distinct differences in human characteristics including races (Brooks, 2012). This paper covers Scenario two involvement between Jim and the other students as the paper covers the advice to the student, best course of action and then the conclusion in determining whether racial discrimination can occur in implied words that do not outrightly racially profile a person or it must be demonstrable discrimination.

Scenario Two

The purpose of this scenario is to give advice to students in a mess. The advice is towards Jim on an incident where he is accused of racially discriminating the black students. Jim on his way from the park meets students who had just pulled over in a car and asks them if anything was the matter because it had appeared as if they were in a problem after overstaying for long in the car. Jim then asked what the students were doing in the park, and since he was white and the others were blacks, one student took offense with the question as racially profiling and he reported Jim to the mediation center.

Advice to the Student

I would advise Jim to apologize to the student who had taken the matter to the mediation center. Inasmuch as Jim takes it as an unfair accusation, the words he used in their right framing implied that one of the reasons that made him ask them what they were doing in a public park, designated for anyone and everyone, is because of their skin color difference. This might not have been Jim's intention, as since he considers it an unfair accusation of racism, it means he did not mean to profile the fellow students. However, the prejudice that comes with the words he used remain and they could imply advancing racial class narrative (Virdee. 2014). For this cause, I would advise Jim to apologize and make peace with the black students who were in the park.

Best Course of Action

The main purpose was to give Jim the best advice and this is to apologize to the black students on his statements. It is the best action since the statements he used might be attributable to advancing racist attitude in the school. The school administration might punish Jim including expelling him from school for advancing discrimination. Also, for the sake of building good friendship, it is good for Jim to make peace with the fellow students.

Conclusion

From the discussion, racial oppression is not only demonstrated in discriminative actions only but also in statements that can possibly imply racist discrimination. Therefore, the best advice for Jim is to apologize and overcome the repercussions that might come if Jim was to lose the case.
