Healthcare and Value-Based Reimbursement

Healthcare has made a lot of progress recently. There are many models that have been developed to explain how health care is delivered and how it is paid for. The value-based reimbursement approach investigates how to pay medical staff and facilities based on the value they contribute to patients. They are compensated in accordance with this approach when the health status of those who have chronic infections improves. Value-based approaches have increased the standard of healthcare, decreased the cost of receiving treatment, and made it easier for more people to obtain care.

Therapeutic Interventions and Population Health

To start, value-based models promote more therapeutic interventions that are supported by evidence. This guarantees that the patients receive better care. In addition to that, the models put more emphasis on population health as opposed to the traditional models which put more attention to individual patients(Value-based Care, 2013). Therefore, this focuses on disease prevention measures for the general population. Secondly, value-based reimbursement ensures quality health care services for the citizens. For instance, the provision of rewards for good outcomes encourages healthcare professionals to work towards improved outcomes (A Comprehensive Approach to Evidence-Based Health Care, n.d). Also, offering rewards to providers who adhere to the set procedures ensures maintenance of health standards.

Continued Advancement of the Value-Based Reimbursement Model

In conclusion, the value-based reimbursement model continues to advance and improve. Involvement of consumers as well as making them aware of their health obligations is a vital element of the value-based model. The Value-based reimbursement model has allowed more people access to quality and affordable care.

Direct Support Professionals in the Healthcare Workforce

Healthcare sector has a diverse set of a group of professionals that deliver healthcare services to the people. It is true to say that majority of healthcare workforce is dominated by the physicians and nurses but on the other hand; there are other professionals found in the healthcare workforce. However, I would like to discuss with the clinical psychologist and direct support professionals who are also part of the healthcare workforce.

Direct Support Professionals

They are professionals in the healthcare system that provides support to people living in group homes. Direct support personnel works in group homes that comprise of children or adults who either have mental issues or developed disabilities and they are in need of a Nursing Assistant. During the day those supported usually have a daily program where they attend like, school, day program, work, etc. It is the work of the direct support staff to assist them once they are back. In most cases, it depends with the kind of support needed.

The direct support staff has a routine in place that makes the aged or the children feel comfortable inconsideration of their sensitive needs. The immediate support staff is supposed to assist them in different ways that include transportation, medical administration, cooking, cleaning, personal care and others (Folland, Goodman, & Stano, 2016). The staff faces a lot in this job as the job is very draining. They emotionally suffer as they are supposed to give a lot of their time, emotions, and passion. There is also a challenge in communications, and it is the mandate of the support staff to develop different ways of communication.

Clinical Psychologist

The clinical psychologist is entitled to reviewing data submitted by the clients that he or she is attending. He or she should be conversant with the proper diagnoses of the customers to apply them correctly. Clinical psychologists participate a lot in implementing the Applied Behavioral Supports. They prepare a written behavior plan used in promoting positive reinforcement for the increasing behaviors. They assist the patients by giving them a reinforcer as part of positive praise. The positive recognition teaches the patients that they will get what they need using positive behavior versus negative behavior (Kessler, Heron, & Spilsbury, 2017).

Clinical psychologists face a lot of challenges whereby the biggest one is when a client is facing physical, behavioral issues that may be a risk to the patient and others. Another aspect is that the clinical psychologist is liable for any damage caused if the behavioral plan violates human rights. He or she should ensure the plan is implemented correctly.
