About Border Security

Illegal Immigration and Border Security

Because of America's porous borders, millions of illegal immigrants have entered the country. This has escalated into a serious situation, prompting radical proposals from a variety of sources. Unfortunately, Obama's administration made the mistake of attempting to tackle this problem without the assistance of Congress (Lalami, 2017). People have discovered that the route to proper immigration reform is to work directly with Congress, not around it. Securing our borders is the key to America's border security. As a country, the United States should stop allowing people to enter our country illegally with no way out (Lalami, 2017). Furthermore, individuals who violate the law should be prosecuted. The security of Americans should be the top priority Mr. President.

The Need for Border Protection

Some of the top two solutions include offering adequate protection to the southern border. Mr. President, the fact that America's border can be easily entered leaves our country exposed to national security perils and has led to an incursion of criminals, especially as it pertains to human trafficking and narcotics (Abbot et al., 2010). The killing of Kathryn (Kate) Steinle-who was murdered by an illegal immigrant previously charged with 7 felonies and had faced deportation 5 times goes to show what can happen when local officials do not take immigration law seriously. That is why I am so optimistic that your plan to build a wall along our Mexican border could not have come at an opportune moment (Lalami, 2017).

The Importance of Thorough Vetting

The second solution to this menace is thoroughly and properly vetting anyone seeking to come to the US for any reason, including those looking for sanctuary from war-ravaged nations such as Syria. Although we have a long history of being a shelter for refugees fleeing persecution, it is the high time we became concerned about our nation and protect our countrymen from radical Islamic extremism (Jones, 2017). According to my analysis, I find the second option quite preferable since a thorough background check will go a long way in analyzing the background of the individual and hence allowing the most qualifying people in our country.

The Role of the Federal Government

The federal government role includes imposing the responsibility and providing the means by which the federal immigration laws will be enacted in conjunction with the various states will secure the country's borders (Alperen, 2017). Thus, the federal government directs executive agencies and departments to set up every lawful means of securing the country's borders and thus preventing illegal immigrants into the US. In addition, the federal government deploys the means to repatriate foreigners consistently, humanely, and swiftly (Alperen, 2017).
