My parents were instrumental in convincing me to study accounting as a major. My parents instilled in me critical reasoning and practicality as I grew up, which I have brought with me throughout my life. They taught me to always make sensible and intelligent choices in my life because those decisions have long-term consequences. I choose accounting as a major because of my realistic and pragmatic temperament. In today's world, the value of capital and how it is used and passed around necessitates continuous monitoring and study. Deciding to do accounting as a major way due to my logical thinking traits, which is what I always wanted to go to college and after graduating get a job. I have always known that companies will always employ and seek for those individuals who can handle their finances and will pay them good money for their services. These are some of the reasons I am pursuing a major in a field that is in high demand in the current economy.

Other than just pursuing accounting with the aim of getting a decent paying job was not my only motivation. I consider myself as a practical individual. In life, for one to have a fulfilling life, they will need to take a certain pride and glean some enjoyment from their work. I have always been interested and excited by all the mathematical aspects of accounting such as balancing boos and keep track of a company’s cash flow.

The skills that one acquires after pursuing accounting as a major are transferable to other jobs. I have always known that by pursuing accounting, one could shift from one profession to another. For instance, I have a couple of friends and relatives who majored in accounting. However, they received job offers out of college and never ended up as accountants. Such experiences in life made me realize that majoring accounting would equip me with unique skills that apply to other jobs other than accounting.

It is no doubt that accounting is a challenging major. However, I have always been a fun of challenging things in my life. I have always felt a sense of satisfaction when a complete solving an accounting problem and having my balances equal. Choosing to account as a major was also motivated by the fact that I would get to learn skills that would help me in building better financial senses, and manage my taxes. I have come to learn that it is a stable field that as a good job security. Moreover, the career path in these filed will expose me to different industries which will help gain experience and expertise.

I know and understand that pursuing accounting as a major will land to very demanding accounting jobs. Also, I also know that I will be facing a lot of competition in the job market. Therefore, in as much as I am pursuing accounting as a major, I would want to distinguish myself as an accountant and achieve a successful career in the same field be becoming certified in the CPA. I plan on pursuing extra credits required to qualify for the CPA exam. After completing these credits, I plan on attaining a Master’s degree in accounting.
