What I Learned From Being Broke

Experiencing Failure and the Importance of Cash

Experiencing failure is an unavoidable part of human life, but it is important to come up with solutions. People desire to become successful and rich, but they don't understand what it takes. Some individuals will never comprehend the importance of cash because they have never been broke. It is simply not possible to convince such kind of a person. Certainly, it can be easy to understand it conceptually, but you’ll never know how it feels to score a free meal. On the other hand, it feels so stressful and unpleasant to be buried in debts from student loans and credit cards. I still remember the day I could not hang out with my friends simply because I could not afford a meal.

Appreciation for the Basic Necessities of Life

It has been long since I was penniless but I can exactly recall how it felt. Being broke at some point in life makes a person appreciate how little they need just to access the basic needs. It also gives gratefulness for having the money or getting the hopes of sooner you will be receiving some money. Most of the individuals live an inefficient and wasteful life by overindulging in activities that get us into fixed circumstances. By this I mean, people enjoy and experience their lives wastefully. They never have that appreciation for the small and basic things that happen throughout the daily lives. They continually endeavor to toss cash at satisfaction without figuring out that satisfaction and happiness can never be purchased.

The Impact of Setbacks on Life

Setbacks are a natural part of the process of life. However, this can greatly affect and influence numerous portions of lives. It can be so hard to predict forthcoming broke days when you spend money wastefully. It can cause negative situation and impacts in life. Lacking cash can cause embarrassment and heartache.

Learning from Being Broke

Being broke has taught me a different perspective towards my financial expenses. It has entirely changed how I handle debts and cash flows into my account. Surely, there is a different feeling between having money and looking like you have it. It has taught me on how to live a real life and avoid unplanned purchases. The moment I had cleared my debts, I promised never to allow that to happen in my life again. I committed beginning a clean life and escalating above my situation. And surely this is exactly what I did.

Taking Action to Overcome Financial Crisis

The truth about being broke is that it can be discouraging and exhaustive. But you have to respond to it by taking appropriate action. However, this is not a simple step to take when you are broke. In my case, I came up with a list of income-producing activities like taking up cleaning duties. Although cleaning was not interesting, I had to implement it to start making extra cash. I decided to think about things that could make me rich. It made me feel better and reminded me that my problems were not that bad.

Seeking Support and Changing Perspectives

The financial crisis got me into depression since lack of money just ruins your thoughts and feelings. It is because I was not able to pay my bills, but I believe the situation was not meant to cause doom and gloom in my life. In most cases, I did not allow myself to become isolated since it brought shame and stigma. So I decided to allow my relatives and close friends to help me simply because I could not bear the humiliation alone. I created social connections with friends where I could talk about my ‘problems.' Although I felt guilty and embarrassed, I did not allow to bring me down.

I responded to this feeling in a unique way whereby, I began to switch my thoughts into good feelings about my life. I could do anything to start feeling rich and abundant. It made me turn things around through my moods and emotions.

Learning from the Experience and Seeking Multiple Sources of Income

The experience made me come up with various resolutions such as not relying on one source of income. I came to realize that relying on a single full time or part-time job does not bring progress to your life. In fact, my debt began to be settled once I started picking extra jobs like cleaning duties. For sure having an extra coin brings about alteration to any financial crisis. It is what I plan to continue doing for my entire life so that I can never feel demoralized.

Solving the Financial Crisis and Living Below Earnings

Despite all shortcomings, it is only ‘you' who can solve this financial crisis. It all starts with conceptualizing an idea in your mind. As I reflected on my bankruptcy, I had thoughts on how I could do something better. Additionally, this experience taught me on how to live below my earnings. This meant that I had to stop purchasing expensive items and visiting fancy places on the weekends.
