Underserved Communities and the Nursing Corps
Underserved communities are mainly found in vulnerable areas that have been ignored in terms of receiving adequate services and facing health equity inequalities. The purpose of the Nursing Corps clearly shows the goals of providing excellent services, improved health workstations, and health equity to all. As I prepare to work as a nurse in marginalized places, I believe I can personally contribute to Nursing Corps' purpose. Patients in these areas are usually impacted by impairments, infectious diseases, and other chronic ailments, and their health is jeopardized due to the area's subpar health standards. I have committed to work effortlessly towards improving the health of the patients by working as a team with other health experts, with the aim of making a change in the underserved communities.
Personal Experience and Motivation
I have had enough experience which I believe will enable me to handle the underserved communities in the best way as I fulfill their health needs. Firstly, I was brought up in a community which experienced poverty in all perspectives. We grew up in contact with discrimination in various aspects of life, especially in healthcare. The health care centers were minimal with a low number of experienced health workers. As a community, we experienced insufficient help, resources, and education as it pertained to the well-being and quality health care. Visiting the healthcare centers and receiving the best care with specialized experts was a difficult thing for the entire community. The disparities contributed to my commitment to work with the underserved communities, and I made the decision to pursue a career in the healthcare sector with a mind to offer help in my community and other communities going through the same problems.
Experience in Underserved Communities
I have been able to participate in various medical camps which have exposed me to underserved communities; I passionately helped the disabled, the elderly and the sick ones. I involved myself in providing cleaning services, cooking for them and offering assistance in their movements for those who had mobility difficulties. I also took the chance to educate the people on how to take care of themselves and ways to prevent themselves from preventable illnesses. Additionally, I worked as a nursing assistant at our local hospital which enabled me to interact with my community and interacted extensively with the less fortunate individuals.
Contributing to the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program
I believe the gained experience and the passion I have to help the underserved communities will be a significant gain in the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program. I will ensure I contribute significantly to the mission and be a change I have grown desiring in the underserved communities. I hope to offer quality care and improve the health of many by applying my knowledge and experience.
