Three Pieces of Advice for Freshmen

Being a freshman might have many challenges when one does not get enough advice from either parents or seniors. There are several pieces of advice that a person can offer upcoming students as they join a high school or university (Bradbury-Haehl and McGarvey 23). Three examples discussed in this paper include the need to know floor mates, the importance of joining clubs, and the essence of making friends in a student’s major.

First of all, it is necessary to recommend a freshman to know and interact with fellow floor mates. When freshmen move into their dormitories, they should try and identify the other students living on the same floor. The introduction can happen floor to floor because it is a chance to meet new individuals and make friends. According to Iman, floor to floor strategy is one of the methods of finding best friends while in school. The second advice to a freshman is the need to stay close to a senior student who can advise appropriately while helping you explore the learning environment (Barille). For instance, having close ties with good senior students will expose a first-year student to one or more clubs in school, and offer him/her an opportunity to explore and make friends. Besides, clubs such as sports clubs will make a first-year student to be fit and explore hidden talents. Lastly, it is vital for a first-year student to make friends with the course mates. Having a cordial relationship with the classmates will help with creating active study groups and sharing of knowledge for better performance (Heffernan and Wallace 46). Classes can be boring, but when friends are around, everything becomes fun as shown in the YouTube video.

In conclusion, there are thousands of pieces of advice that people can give to freshman as they prepare to start their high school and university education. However, the three pieces discussed in this paper are the three most important ones that can shape their lives. Every first-year student needs help for them to be successful in their courses.
