Steel examines Thomas Jefferson's biography, beliefs, and contributions to gender in the journal Thomas Jefferson's Gender Frontier. (Steele, Brian). Throughout his career, he extolled American women, saying that their widespread wealth allowed for the flourishing of natural gender roles.
One of the reasons undermining his claim about America was slavery, which reinforced class division in addition to conflicting with the values he upheld. He received universal acclaim and honor for his contribution to the revolution as a result of his new position. Later, he came back to Virginia to participate in the drafting of the new constitution. Jefferson view of the American distinctiveness was a local order in which he assumed to be uniquely American and unanimously natural. In his administration, as the president, he passed through several storms that included conflict with the judiciary wing and a scandal that involved hams and Sally Heming who was reported to be a slave mistress. During his term, he was in a position to avoid foreign wars, and he did that at the expense of his nations good fortunes and as well as reputation. Just like many of the of the 18th-century thinkers, Jefferson believed that the human behavior as closely related to the reflective stages of development. Jefferson felt that political, domestic and seriousness of purpose for the American life utterly lacked in France. In the article, it is pretty clear the Jefferson perceived women to be objects of pleasure but not the field hand. He observed that women formed by nature for attention rather than viewing them as being equal to men.
