Social Work and the Role of Social Workers
Social work is a field that deals with individual, family, group, and community aspects to improve their social functioning and well-being. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the social workers to support people to improve the outcome of their lives. Social workers maintain their relationships at their specific profession by acting as guides. Their judgments on particular issues are determined by their professions, hence easy in coming up with a decision which may or may not is accepted by people they are trying to assist. Therefore, social workers work in a variety of different settings. For instance, one may work in a school, hospital, in a human right department or even at the police depending on his or her specialization.
Role of Police Social Workers
The following represents an example of two social workers and the context in which they operate. The police are the first group to consider in this context. They mainly work to intervene on the crisis to people who might be experiencing the challenges of conflicts, and crimes. These social workers are responsible for providing counseling to other police officers at their working stations. They are the same people who offer training to those willing to join their group. Their families are always in harmony because of the primary role they play in counseling and ensuring securing among them. Community members also engage these police social workers when they are faced with a crisis by giving them calls. Therefore, the workers are required to offer a social service response that can end people's problems.
Role of Human Rights Social Workers
Another group of the social workers is that of human rights protection. This team is mainly set to champion for individual's rights and freedom. They are used to work by organizing meetings in community setups to address issues affecting people and how to control them. Physically disabled groups, the elderly, school dropouts, and the homeless are the focused grouped in these teachings. Through this awareness, individuals are encouraged hence, able to realize their rights. The human right social workers also address on family violence in communities. They do this by counseling those families affected. School dropouts are registered with free study programs because it is their right to get educated. Therefore, they aim to develop and fulfill human needs because people can claim their rights at any time.
Similarities and Differences between Police and Human Rights Social Workers
Police social workers are similar to the human right workers because they all work to offer personal and physical help to those affected or the disabled. All of these bodies help individuals with self-control skills in their lives since they aim at protecting, training, and counseling community members. The only difference that exists among these individuals is the bodies in which they work under. Human rights workers are controlled by the body responsible for people's rights, while their security agencies guide the police. In professional fields, the two social workers are licensed to provide services. They both put more emphasis on educating people and providing them with required resources that may be making their lives good. The difference in experience is evident between the police and human rights social workers. The police have more experience on security matters while the human rights deal with the freedom and well-being of individuals. Human social workers and police officers to some extent tend to solve similar social problems. For instance, child abuse, and domestic violence cases can be both handled by the two bodies. In conclusion, both the police and human rights social works play a significant role in protecting people's lives.
