Education remain one of the most important process in human life. Through education, humans gain both knowledge and skills needed to improve their livelihood. Good education is linked to better salary, less poverty, higher marriage chances and better living standard. This essay however focuses on how education relate to race.
Ryan " Bauman (2016) analyzes the disparities in the education system in the United States based on Age, sex, Race, Nativity status and disability status using data collected from current population survey. Looking at the relationship of education attainment with (race and Hispanic origin) (Ryan " Bauman, 2016) found out that though Non-Hispanic white had highest number of Adults attaining more than high school education at (93%) the Asian (54%) still recorded highest percentages on student who had attain bachelors or higher education. Hispanics on the other hand recorded low education attainment at both ends. Only 67% of Hispanics attain high school educations with 5% proceeding to attain advanced education. The positive behind all the statistics is that there is general improvement in the number of people getting all levels of education regardless of race. Friedman (2012) point out that education achievement is related to poverty. The big question therefore involve asking the correct people if there is any relationship between poverty and races in United State.
Hoynes, Huff " Page (2006) analyzing poverty trends in America confidently point out that blacks and Hispanics were struggling to make wealth compared to their white counterparts. While poverty amongst blacks and Hispanic is approximated to be 24.3 percent and 22.5 percent respectively, poverty amongst the white is only 8.2 percent. The study carried out by (Hoynes, Huff " Page, 2006) also relate with the analysis done by (Friedman, 2012) which strongly pointed out the correlation between education and living standard. Unfortunately, going by the study done by (Friedman, 2012), the unfairness in the education system (poor people rarely access good education standard) it is less likely that that an individual coming from Hispanic or African American origin will access good education compared to white kid from wealthy neighborhood. According to (Hoynes, Huff " Page, 2006) only 9.6 percent of families whose head had education higher than high school lived below poverty line compared to 31.3 percent of families whose head had education not higher than high school.
According to the study done by (Macartney, Bishaw " Fontenot, 2013) between 2007-2011 showed that less whites and Asian lived below poverty line compared to Hispanics, blacks/African American or American Indians. Therefore based on the statistics as evidenced in appendices 1, the research done by (Macartney, Bishaw " Fontenot, 2013) closely related and confirm the research done by (Hoynes, Huff " Page, 2006) and (Ryan " Bauman, 2016) all carried at different times by different bodies.
In conclusion, poverty in America is closely linked to race with the blacks and Hispanics being the most disadvantage. Unfortunately, poverty relate to education level and thus make it even more challenging for blacks and Hispanics who are already disadvantage by poverty to access their only hope out of poverty. Equality is therefore need especially in education.
