Art and its Importance in Society
Art is an important component in today's environment since it delivers important signals to the community and the people affected. As the adage goes, "Great art judges us, not the other way around" (Chekhov). The two stories employ different messages in their capacity, but in my case, I relate to the story titled 'The Lady with the Little Dog.'
An Ugly Comedy: Hunger Strike
The other story of Hunger Strike I did not find anything touchable to relate with it because, as much as it tells of how four young men decided to go about an issue of fighting for their rights to get their favorite lecture, I did not find anything touchable to relate with it because, as much as it tells of how four young men decided to go about an issue of fighting for back on course after his official firing.
Immature Decisions and Societal Reflections
The story was ugly and more of a comedy related story than a story with a large and watery message to cater for issues affecting the society. It was only composed of young teenagers who were so excited about life and did not just know what to and feel thus ending making very immature decisions. On the other hand, the story of the lady with the little dog has compelling messages that showcase what goes on in society (Chekhov). Most of the times the girl child in the community is always looked down upon where people view the women as the lower-class breed on the human race. It is very evident in our story where we find the old man, Dmitiri Gurov, in his forties despises women and maintains an attitude that lowers them.
Infidelity in Modern Marriages
The other issue that pooped up and caught my attention was the much-growing infidelity realized in modern marriages (Chekhov). Most marriages and unions today are not built on the foundations of trust and faithfulness but lame bases like money and fame. Dmitiri Gurov was a man who used to roll around with many other women although he was a married man. When she met the lady with the little dog, Anna, they both took their feelings a notch higher by getting intimate with each other although they were both married. It confirms the fact that there is no more extended trust and faithfulness in the marriages and unions.
