According to him, competence is the desired virtue and points out that talented people will not involve in self-promotion, but rather they will let their qualities speak for themselves. Self-confidence hides a person’s weaknesses and limitations, and this is normally mistakes for competence by some people. The article emphasizes that there are short-term advantages of fooling others but also, the long-term impacts tend to be more detrimental and damaging to people. Chamorro-Premuzic thus recommends that people should practice moral, ethical conduct and be rational in their undertakings to avoid harming others.

The story portrays the effect that traditional values diverse cultures such as Indian and American cultures. Notably, the marriage of an Indian woman is a matter of everyone around her, and she becomes more connected to the family and community, and this affects her decisions. American-Indian cultural conflicts concerning the values of marriage and family make it difficult for relations between the two cultures to stand. The theme of the book challenges the Indian tradition of arranged marriages and calls people to embrace and find identity in the new American culture.

The theme of the story centers on the painful ambivalence that a young woman encounters as she becomes part of the sexually active world. The girl develops low confidence and feels like boys are distracting her life as she is also not prepared to face the pressures of the male desires. In this story, lust is a key word that is used to explore the psychological complexities of sexual desires. More importantly, Minot tries to tell the reader that the advent of the birth control pills has dramatically altered the sexual roles of women. Minot thus elucidates the psychological dangers that emanate from undesired sexual encounters. This has been enhanced through providing a detailed look at the emotional harm that ensues when young women fail to have a clear understanding of what to expect from the sexual intercourse.
How to tell a True Story
O'Brien, Tim. How to tell a True Story. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2009.
O’Brien in this story offers stories to the reader which draw a commentary abstract between a true and a fictional war story. The story centers on Rat Kiley and Lemon's sister who hail from different interpretive communities and thus have different sets of expectations and experiences. The outcome of this is a radical difference in the way the two characters feel and understand similar events. O’Brien narrates Rat’s story and shows to the reader that the accounts of the war story fail to give an uplifting and a moral end. Form this, O’Brien highlights that one can tell a true war account if it is embarrassing and it is also difficult to distinguish between what happened and what seemed to happen as the memories get confused. According to O’Brien, it is difficult for people to believe a true story but is this is not the case, it is skeptical and that a true story has a moral ending.
