The Importance of Motivation in Personal and Organizational Development

Motivation

Motivation is one of the critical factors in determining individual input and engagement in various activities. People, therefore, strive to find motivation and the ways to sustain it due to its relationship with the personal output. In most cases, employers have designed policy in working environments to motivate and encourage their employees to stay excited about the productivity of the organization. Ideally, the ideas set to motivate people to tend not to work or they fail to make the employees own the organization's dream. In that respect, the idea that people are motivated differently becomes evident. Therefore, there is a need to understand what motivation is, how it works and how it can be sustained either for individual development or organization's well-being. This paper, therefore, seeks to discuss the main ideas behind motivation, including how to get motivated as well as how to stay motivated for long-run purposes.

Motivation

Motivation is defined as psychological forces that compel an individual to take action (Clear). According to Lai (2011), Motivation is the reasons behind individual behavior either to do or not to do something. Ideally, this is true in analyzing various basic personal routines such as shopping or other engagements. For instance, the feeling about the position an individual would have in the society after attainment of power makes him work intensively to gain the perceived power or class. Motivation may manifest in individual behaviors that compel or orient individual action in a favorable way that would give people gratitude and other external rewards (Lai 5). In some aspects, motivation is described as the results of actions initiated by an individual (Clear). This is true in the sense that after initiating an activity, individual tend to be inspired in working to accomplish the already started objective. Motivation in such a school of thought is centered on the idea that once the task is initiated, it is easier to make it run forward.

Intrinsically, motivation works following the initial steps made concerning a task.

The steps taken at the initial stages develop behavior or a habit that an individual works to perfect and sustain (Clear). In that case, therefore, the initiation of an idea makes an aspiration to come naturally in pursuit of the progress of the task initiated.

How to Get Motivated

The misconception surrounding the idea of motivation acquirement is the main reason for the struggle to get motivated. In most cases, people find motivation a challenging task due to a misunderstanding on how the process works. The easiest way of developing or getting motivated it makes steps on the initiatives or behavior (Clear). This concept is practical since the initiation of the process will make the mind set for the progress of the initiated task thus increasing motivation in personal development.

Firstly there is a need to own and schedule individual motivation. For instance, when a task is scheduled, there are high chances that individual will feel moved to start the scheduled task and complete it. Another practical example is the case of working out; ideally, an individual who does not schedule on working out will only do so after realizing increased weight gain and so forth. However, when the work-out is scheduled then an individual would wake aspiring to start and complete the following his schedule. In most cases, we fail to motivate ourselves because we spend a lot of resources including time deciding on when to start working or increasing input in both person and organization's development (Clear). In that case, setting a schedule on individual routine is may function as the best way of motivating self.

The insight on self-worth is another domain that is relevant in looking at the ways people feel motivated or attract motivations. According to self-worth theory, individual conceptions on the task make him feel that the accomplishment would increase their self-worth. For instance, students believe that competence in academic domains make them feel they have a sense of self-worth in an academic context (Lai 9). In that case, a student will attempt to maximize their self-worth by excelling or by making attributions following their controls and abilities.

The motivation for the Long-Run

Getting motivated and inspired to do a task may seem like an easier input especially, considering that starting a task motivates the progressive input. However, maintaining the same momentum to have a sustained motivated spirit is not easier since individuals get discouraged due to incomplete objectives. In that case therefore how motivation is handled will define its applicability in the long-run.

In individual development motivation fades due to two significant insights; firstly the task an individual is engaging on is too easy to lead to boredom, and secondly, the task is too complicated as compared to persons' abilities (Clear). This statement is valid due to the fact that when a task is too easy an individual will work on it with comfort due to guarantee in winning or accomplishing; no challenge involved. In that case, an individual may limit his capability due to the feeling that there is no need for intense focus. On the other hand, engaging in a task that is beyond individual capabilities make the individual have the thought that even his peak input would not make any difference. In that respect, input to the task is limited leading to demotivation. In that respect people work well and maintain motivation when the task they are working on is just right to their capabilities; not too hard or too easy (Clear).

Conclusion

In a nutshell, motivation forms individual forces that compel him to engage in the different task as well as increasing inputs to various initiatives. Also, motivation has been associated by individual steps concerning a task. In that respect, individual make initial steps towards the set task with then inspire the progressive input towards this act. To get motivated an individual needs to own the task and schedule their routines which are essential in inspiring their actions and behaviors. Also, owning the task and the desire to perfect the already started task can help in maintain and motivating an individual. Finally, to maintain motivation, an individual needs to engage in the tasks that are right to their abilities.
