Parents Always Want the Best
Parents always want the best for their children and mine were too. They had taught us to take care of each other, and because I was the man, I had the responsibility of taking care of my sister who was three years younger than me. It was fortunate that we went to school together and did almost everything together, but there is this afternoon that my sister came home crying and sad. All she said was that she could not bear it anymore and there was nothing left significant left in the world to convince her to continue living. She was worn out, and her hair was messed up, her clothes too were torn, and this is when I realized that everything was not okay. She had gone out together with her friends, and I could not join them because I was also going out fishing with my friends, it was my hobby, but she hated fishing.
The Sad Truth
After some interrogation and calming her down, she told me the truth, John one of our classmates who was with them had forced himself into her. She had been raped, and this was a sad truth. My parents came to know it, and they took the matter to the police. John had himself arrested, and other lawful measures were taken against him. I blamed myself so much for not being able to look after her. It was my responsibility whenever my parents were not around to ensure that she was safe and despite that John was arrested and charged with rape, I realized that nothing ever added up.
The Devastating Act
The act had already taken place, and so much was stolen from her. My sister and I were close friends, and she used to tell me everything and something I knew about her was that she was a virgin. This meant that the act took away her worth, her privacy, her energy, time, intimacy, confidence and her voice. I knew that this might take years to heal or she might end up living with a hole in her heart for the rest of her life. While thinking about the whole truth, I realized that high schools girls required to be impacted with skills which they can use during such scenarios and protect themselves and martial arts could be the best if our girls will be safe when alone. I realized that we could not be able to take care of our beloved ones for 24 hours and therefore, there is the need to have them learn skills which they can use without us. Below is an illustration of why martial art is essential and the reason it should be made compulsory especially for high school girls.
The Significance of Martial Art
Martial art has its origins in Asia, and it is used to refer to various systems of training for combat that have been systematized. They are ancient methods which are used to train the mind body and spirit to act like one. In most cases, those people who practice martial arts strive for harmony, but they also learn effective and often devastating techniques which they can use in defense. Some of the techniques learned include the following: karate, jiu-jitsu, aikido, and others. Several studies are showing that there is no any relationship between verbal and physical resistance and the amount of injury that the person sustains. This fact means that if a person resists he or she does not increase the risk of injury. Therefore, there is the need of having our ladies taught how to endure in any abuse may it be physical.
Empowering Girls Through Self-Defense Training
Self-defense training is a way of empowering girls. I believe that if my sister had such training, perhaps she could have managed to escape the incident. Martial arts ought to be compulsory in all schools and should be offered as a lesson just like physical education classes as part of the subjects offered in school (Chanana 40). This education is not only meant for training our girls to fighters, but there are so many other advantages which are connected to martial arts and these are listed below.
Self-Defense
Self-defense is the ultimate goal and the main reason as to why our girls should be taught martial arts and logic as to why it should be compulsory in our schools. This act as insurance whereby you hope you will never need it, but one is happy if he or she has it when the need arises. Contrary to what people think, martial arts training will not promote violence, but its primary aim is allowing the training to develop focus, concentration, awareness, and confidence which will help them handle any situation n that calmly comes in their way before it even becomes physically violent. Therefore, this will be a vital skill for the girls which will enable them to escape being victims of rape (Podrigalo, Iermakov, & Jagiello 10).
Discipline
Martial art is best known for its ability to create discipline among adults and children. Discipline is created after the trainees are taught how to focus, concentrate and also respect. Every person who happens to be training martial art is required to focus and concentrate on what they are learning, and this is what helps them achieve the optimal benefit of their training. This form of concentration also carries over to the other parts of life which include home, school, and work. Trainees in the martial art also involve respect for other, and this is also important in the outside world (Iermakov, Podrigalo, & Jagie\u0142\u0142o 76).
Self-Confidence
Everyone requires self-confidence to bale to face life and succeed in many aspects of life. Martial art is one of the programs which train individuals to believe in themselves, and if this aspect is transferred to other aspects of life, then you are sure that your child is deemed to succeed. Training martial art help someone tune his or her mind and body, and this gives them skills that they require to defend and control themselves as well as handling those situations that come along their way (Bledsoe 325).
Fitness and Fun
Most people have been going to the gymnastics to due to health issues, and others want to keep fit. In most cases, people end up quitting those programs after a short time after they get bored. The main reason is that they keep on doing the same thing again and again. In martial arts, learners are always practicing and learning new skills, and this helps in relieving boredom and increases the desire to continue training. The regular practice will eventually result in fit body, and this reduces the health problems (Wright, Macdonald, & Groom 20).
Conclusion
It is important to note that apart from the aspect of self-defense, there are other advantages which are attributed to martial arts. There is the likelihood that if my sister had such kind of training, she would not have something to regret of in the whole of her life and she would still have her dignity. Our girls will gain the skills to fight on their own, and they will also be empowered in other areas of their life. Obtaining these skills is the main reason as to why martial arts ought to be made compulsory for high school girls.
