Leadership
Leadership refers to an act of stirring a group of people who are working towards attaining a predetermined goal. Typically, a leader is a source of motivation and a director of actions. Though most leaders are born, there are incidences where individuals are drilled to head various units by refining on a few management skills that they lack.
Changes in Leadership
According to Hobart and Sendek (2014), leadership has changed significantly over the past one hundred years due to the inception of improved techno-how. With modern technology, managers can supervise their organizations when they are at distant places. Moreover, most of the communication is currently made through electronic devices, an incident that is contrary to ancient leadership, where supervisors communicated directly to workers (Hobart, "Sendek, 2014). Furthermore, the current leadership is characterized by democracy as compared to the 20th-century leadership where managers were the sole decision makers.
Importance of Leadership during Change
Leadership is more important during the time of change because employees are required to receive appropriate information during the transformation. Heads of institutions must tell workers what the change entails, their new roles, and the general regulations in management (Heifetz, "Linsky, 2017). Moreover, leadership is needed during the time of change so that organizations can be directed on how to use resources. An example where the change occurred was at one of a private security firm in America known as G4S. After its manager had retired, one of the body members stepped in to fill the position and managed the firm appropriately.
Destructive Leadership
An example of a destructive leader at G4S was the human resource manager. The manager could not share relevant information with other workers unless employees went on a go slow. Moreover, this leader did not tolerate many questions from the workers. However, the person was still a successful leader because he identified and rewarded hardworking employees at the firm. Also, the manager made regular supervisions to monitor how tasks were being accomplished.
