The Future of Flying Cars

Technology and the Future of the Automotive Industry

Technology has always defined the automotive industry; this is from the era when air conditioning, electric cars and doors were introduced, and at the moment, the industry is aiming at creating flying cars. Vehicles that are self-driving and can fly have the potential of becoming the most significant innovation ever seen in the automotive industry (Lekach). The idea of flying cars once sounded decades away, but with the technological advancements, the plan could turn to reality. Companies such as Uber have already embraced the technology, and the company is set to present its flying vehicles in 2010. As wild as it sounds, soon, it could be possible to hail a vertical take-off, flying taxi (Julie Johnsson and Alan Levin).

The Benefits and Challenges of Self-Driving Flying Cars

The self-driving flying cars have the enormous potential of improving the lives of people through reduction of road traffic, time management, efficient in the delivery of services, job creation and so on. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the major tech companies to turn the flying car ideas into functional, efficient aircraft. As the era of flying cars approaches, the technological advancement also brings up questions about safely of civilians in the air. It is also the role of government regulators to ensure that the safety of civilians will be guaranteed before any of the flying cars are approved. One of the issues that have to be addressed is the management of air traffics and also the probability of aircraft malfunction (Julie Johnsson and Alan Levin).

The Challenges of Regulating Flying Cars

People are not just going to embrace the new technology and board the flying cars without the assurance that the air vehicles are safe. Getting approval for the aerospace technology is not going to be easy for companies like Boeing; this is because no regulations exist yet about flying cars since it is an aircraft that has never been manufactured before (Madden).
