Confidence is one of the most significant factors in determining effective leadership. However, there are numerous traits which adversely affect most leaders in exploiting their greatest height as far as excellent leadership is concerned (Northouse, 37). Therefore, the purpose of this essay paper is to discuss some of the notable traits hindering people from becoming confident leaders as well as ways of improving on such habits as discussed below;
Bad Traits
Some of the challenges facing potential future leaders include self-doubt, seeking acceptance and validation as well as being full of excuses. Doubting oneself may be a barrier in becoming a confident leader. Numerous instances present a challenging moment to trust themselves leading to inner fear and frustrations (Northouse, 38). Moreover, failure to receive acceptance from people may create some element of fear in some people. Such notions act as threats for one to become a bold leader. Additionally, having a list of excuses is also a detriment as far as excellent leadership is concerned. Usually, people who tend to have reasons in everything they do may not be able to stand up for their actions, and what they believe in, thus, such habits are inconsistent in the quality of bravery.
Recommendations
Despite the disadvantages associated with some of the habits, there are many strategies of overcoming such weaknesses. For instance, being aware of the fact that one is a beginner has a long way to go instead of seeking approval from other people. Nonetheless, believing in one's value system is critical in avoiding being swayed by current events and specific pattern of thinking as well as delivering one's message with remarkable clarity (Northouse, 34). Therefore, such approaches can tremendously help individuals in their quests of becoming confident and competent leaders.
