Poverty and its Implications
Poverty margin in the U.S was 14.5% equivalent to 45.3 million people in 2013 according to the World Bank. In the case study of Mrs.Hajo and her grandson, Tony shows the effect of poverty on people who live below the poverty index line. The issue of immigration has its implication on social security of people that migrate into the U.S. transition into or out of poverty regularly happen during shifts in marriage, divorce, and even death. Tony's mother died of liver cirrhosis due to alcoholism leaving her son in the care of her grandmother Mrs. Hajo. Indulging in alcoholism is most of the time caused by stress which lowers the self-esteem of a person caused by poverty or other social factors. Race creates a rift in the social and political class around the world.
Tony's Progression and Social Injustice
The effect of Tony's progression in life is attributed to poverty and disparity in the family where his biological father is imprisoned due to possession of narcotics. The social responsibilities of Mrs.Hajo to take care of Tony possess to be a challenge. Failure of the divorce between Tony's mother and her first husband revoked the adaption of Tony to be under the care of his grandmother. There is a social injustice because of the birth certificate that included the first husband of Tony's mum to appear as the legal father. The legal implication does not give Tony's father to have legal custody of the son since he is serving in a prison. The act limits the possibility of Tony to at least grow under the care of the people he is familiar with. The case causes stress and lack of motivation in class and hence decline in Tony's grades. Policies of the school do not allow participation in the co-curriculum activities with significant drop education grades (Adams 68). The difference between my current situation and that of the client is that I have a better home care with basic necessities. Tony's has to rely on the government support on nutrition, undergoing stress due to the loss of his mother and also a failure of adoption by the grandmother. The factors create an unsuitable environment for social growth and performance.
Solutions to Social Injustice
Social injustice can be corrected through advocating of policies that meet the needs of people depending on the Supplementary Security Income by the provision of subsidies and employment which will boost the economical factor hence eradicating poverty. Self-help programs can improve the lives of the people struggling meeting the basic necessities on a day to day activities (Xie, et al. np). Legal custody on Tony's case can only be corrected if the grandmother is able to provide for basic necessities for the upkeep in their lives. The main question is does Tony's grades increase of is he forced out of the baseball team?
Social Work and Health Support
The social work structure provides for healthcare facilities which are covered by insurance. The client's case does not have an insurance cover on the health and is exposed to challenges pertaining health cover. Tony is worried that he might need braces knowing that he does not access health care insurance or support. Social work incorporates issues that are challenging to the people with financial problems by support through the provision of food and also advocate for quality health policies. The difference experience on the case study has helped me to understand the challenges and effects of poverty in the society and provide social support to the people who are affected by not discriminating them.
