The Definition of Success

Success can be defined as the state of being happy after achievement of the personal goals. The term can be viewed from different perspectives depending on an individual. Success can be measured by the materialistic wealth, having a lot of money, being famous or winning a competition. However, the aspect of measuring victory in terms of materialistic gains can be criticized as happiness is not an automatic outcome. The road to success is tough and cambered with challenges hence the feeling of accomplishment at the end. Never giving up and having the winning spirit is a path that leads to triumph. Success is relative and people measure achievement from different perspectives. I believe that success comes from having great ideas, respect, having integrity, and being patient.  Achieving the personal goals and fulfilling the desires can be termed as victory from my personal point of view. Failure is the opposite of success and can be defined as not attaining the personal goals (Sharkey and Carolyn, 12). Therefore, success is the process of achieving personal goals, being happy and having virtues that can be appreciated by society at large.

Everyone desires to be successful in his or her endeavors and wishes to stand out of the rest for achieving more. Success is never an accident and only comes to those who are hardworking, committed and sacrifice to attain their goals. Being honored by the society for standing out is what motivates people to have the desire to triumph. Take an example of a sports competition whereby the participants are motivated by being recognized by the world as champions. Proper planning and self-determination are the best way to success and must be driven by personal inspirations.  Passion, high self-esteem and having a winning spirit contributes to success. Failure and challenges should be expected in the path to success and should be overcome. To be victorious, one should be strong and remain focused on the goal.

Goal setting is the first stage of self-accomplishment. Values and traits like wisdom, hope, and good judgment are a key to goal accomplishment. One should be able to learn from the mistakes and have an internal motivation. There is no fixed recipe for being victorious due to the different views of success. Prioritization and identifying time wasters helps to remain focused on the set objectives. Being flexible and exploring various strategies is a secret for accomplishing of the goals (Sharkey and Carolyn, 12). Success determines individuals who are open-minded and ready to implement change depending on the situations at hand.

Materialistic benefits are attributed to success by some individuals. The definition cannot be neglected since people have their own views of victory. However, money cannot buy happiness, respect, love, patience, and acceptance in the community. Success needs to result in happiness and the feeling of accomplishment. Since money fails to purchase the things that make someone happy cannot be recognized as a measure of victory.  Happiness can be regarded as a measure for success since it brings a feeling of self-satisfaction.

The different views of success make people take different paths.  Victory can be achieved in careers, sports, leadership, business among other fields. I believe that it is time for people to view success from a different perspective. Success should be regarded as what brings happiness and a sense of accomplishment at the end. Therefore, success is the accomplishment of short and long-term goals that result in happiness.
