Low Voter Turnout in Texas
Low voter turnout has become one of the most common problems in the United States politics. In fact, it is admissible to indicate that less than a half of the country citizen vote in most elections. In particular, Texas has been of the most affected state with exceedingly low voter turnout in special elections. Ranks indicate that Texas is amongst 40 states in the United States with low voter turnout. Undoubtedly, there exists various factors cause low voter turnout in Texas. One of the main factor causing low voter turnout is the political culture of Texans. The political culture in Texas can be divided into two: individualistic and traditionalist culture. Ideally, most of the Texans fail to vote due to these cultures, which do not believe in political related affairs. Moreover, other people believe that the political system consists of corrupt individuals and thus they fail to participate in elections (Green " Gerber, 2015). In order to eradicate this trend, both the state and federal government need to create programs and platforms that provide education to Texans on the importance of participating in elections.
Socioeconomic Factors and Voter Turnout
The other factor that causes low voter turnout is the low socioeconomic status. In particular, of all the socioeconomic factors affecting voter turnout in Texas, education plays a crucial role (Galbraith " Hale, 2008). In fact, it is worth noting to indicate that people who are more educated tend to participate in voting since they have a better understanding of the voting system. Thus, socioeconomic factors such as level of education and income facilitate low voter turnout in Texas. In order to fix this problem, all key stakeholders such as the federal government should come with strategies of increasing socio-economic status of people. For instance, providing education will help them understand the importance of participating in the elections.
