Strategies/Possible Solutions for Misbehavior in the Inclusion Classroom

1. Hold workshops with parents to educate them about the importance of active parental participation in their children's education.

These seminars should discuss factors that have been linked to classroom misbehavior, such as inconsistent parenting, uncaring parenting, and overprotection of children (Ghazi et al., 2013).

2. Encourage cooperation between parents and teachers so that teachers can encourage a child's parent to actively participate in their child's actions in the classroom.

Both in school and the community, peers have an effect.

Solution 1: Establish standard operating procedures to be followed whenever students misbehave. Peers play a significant role in influencing others' behavior. Policies should be established to punish both the misbehaving children and their influencers as well.

Solution 2: Encourage collaboration between teachers and parents so that both can track their children's progress. Unless both the parent and the teacher keep track of the peers their children associate with, these peers are bound to be influenced at home or in school.

Failure of teachers to punish misbehavior. Teachers' failure to punish misbehaving students appears to be a reward for misbehavior thus encourages continued misbehaving (Winfield, 2012; Sun & Shek, 2012)

Solution 1: Reward good behavior. While many teachers fail to punish misbehaving children, a majority of them fail to acknowledge good behavior. Rewarding good behavior is more effective than punishing misbehavior.

Solution 2: Train teachers to handle misbehaving students promptly without compromise. Teachers should take quick action to contain a misbehaving child early before it is too late to act.

The quest for attention. Students seek the attention of their teachers by misbehaving (Guyana's MOE, 2015)

Solution 1: Punish attention-seeking students individually. Each child should be held accountable for his or her misbehavior.

Solution 2: Encourage teachers to enforce class rules and regulations. For example, rules that hinder students from answering questions without raising their hands should be put in place. The teacher should communicate that extreme misbehaviors and failure to observe the class regulations will be dealt with such extreme measures as detention or timely suspension.

Psychological factors such as emotional distress, family issues, and uncaring parents (Ghazi et al., 2013).

Solution 1: Counseling sessions. Offering emotional support has been reported as one of the most effective ways to handle misbehavior in the classroom (Hamre & Pianta, 2005)

Solution 2: Train teachers to encourage their students to communicate whatever psychological problems they might be undergoing
