Restaurant Prep Cook Motivation

Restaurant Prep Cooks: Promoting Workplace Health Standards and Task Completion

Restaurant prep cooks play an important role in promoting workplace health standards and task completion by aiding chefs with their operations (Crouse, 2015). They assist in all pre-cooking procedures, which are critical in supporting the successful preparation of meals, as part of their responsibilities. Currently, I work as a prep cook in one of the best restaurants, which has provided me a greater opportunity to advance my profession. At this time, I've been assigned many roles that have expanded my knowledge of the work. I perform basic kitchen maintenance activities such as ensuring that bit litters are distributed on time. As an accomplishment of my studies, I have practically learned of the knowledge on health and safety rules which make part of kitchen operations. I have also improved on my team abilities through enhanced communication skills with my fellow employees. Most importantly, I have received both intrinsic and extrinsic rewards that have improved my level of career satisfaction as well as the motivation to work hard.

The Intrinsic Reward of Skill Achievement

The sense of skill achievement that I have been able to gain over the years is the intrinsic reward that I pride myself. Due to the efforts that I have put on my job, I have increased my ability in undertaking duties to assist the chefs in accomplishing their kitchen tasks. The feeling that I get as a result of what I have been doing has given me the push to achieve more on my job (Crouse, 2015). My supervisor and a significant portion of the restaurant management have continually congratulated me for my excellent job in meeting the restaurant standards of work.

Internal Satisfaction and Overtime Achievement

Additionally, I have achieved a high level of internal satisfaction as a result of the overtime achievement I have had in my career. I can now perform additional tasks as table preparations, and food storage is also something that I pride myself of. My ability to attain the highest standards of health that are required in undertaking the roles is also something that I highly take credit for.

Extrinsic Motivation: Monetary Compensation

My primary extrinsic motivation to doing my jobs is the monetary compensation that I have been able to draw from the restaurant overtime. Through the reward, I have managed to meet my daily needs and even carry out savings (Crouse, 2015). On various occasions, I have also been rewarded with bonuses as a result of being outstanding in my job as a consequence of the extra effort that I put each time I am at work.

Fringe Benefits and Employee Support

Additionally, I have enjoyed fringe benefits provided by the company such as medical insurance cover which continually covers for all my health needs on and off work. I have also had the privileges of being given an elaborate pension plan, and a detailed employee benefits scheme by the restaurant management (Crouse, 2015). All the motivation has contributed to my ability to continue working for the restaurant as a result of the sense of appreciation and support that I have received.

Motivation for Continuous Growth and Career Advancement

Notably, the rewards have been a source of motivation and satisfaction in my job. The achievement of improved working skills as a prep cook has motivated me to continually make more strides in improving my employment and work-related abilities further. I have realized that the achievement of progressive career growth is as a result of years of experience and hard work, which is something that I continually seek given that it is also satisfying to feel valuable (Crouse, 2015). I also have a high satisfaction in regards to my attainment of health standards promotion which is critical in the hospitality industry and as it serves as a requirement by the health regulatory bodies.

Financial Satisfaction and Rewards

The finances that I have over time been remunerated as a result of my prep cook services provide have enhanced my financial satisfaction and motivation in my job. The monetary rewards have been structured to compensate the amount of work that I do within a particular period within the restaurant. The bonuses also provide satisfaction since they give me a feeling that the management recognizes the skills and expertise that I put in doing my work (Crouse, 2015). Also, the fringe benefits given by the restaurant management has been important in encouraging me to do my job since some of my medical and social interests are catered for.

Improving the Rewarding System

Despite the existence of substantial rewards, I would encourage the management to change the rewarding system by conducting further adjustments. As part of those who have provided long years of service to the company, an introduction of long-service awards would be a substantial source of motivation (Crouse, 2015). Through such schemes, such employees in my category would feel appreciated as a result of their faithfulness in promoting quality and profitability of the restaurant. Additionally, introducing stock options would provide me an opportunity to invest part of my savings in the growth of the restaurant and become owners. This system would also increase my commitment to promoting the interest of the restaurant since the profit realization objective would become part of what I would work towards achieving.

Promoting Career Advancement and Employee Satisfaction

The restaurant management also needs to consistently carry out a review of skills as this would provide a perfect opportunity for promotion. Through promotions into higher levels of the employment, the scale would be a primary source of motivation and appreciation that would increase my morale for work. Education incentives and constant training would also be a welcome idea in promoting employee satisfaction and motivation (Crouse, 2015). Through such schemes, I would be in a position to increase my knowledge as Restaurant prep cooks and also include the use of technology in my career.

Conclusion

Overall, I have gained extrinsic rewards which include the improvement in my skills and the health-related knowledge that I have gained over time from my workplace. I have got intrinsic rewards that resulted from the monetary and fringe benefits that I have acquired from my job. As a result of being a prep cook, I have gained satisfaction and motivation which include improvement in my skills and the financial gain which enables me to meet my daily needs. Despite the good standards laid out by the restaurant management, I would consider making some changes in the reward system. Among the significant changes would be an introduction of a long service award, job promotion and educational incentives which will be of importance in expanding my knowledge and promoting my career.
