There is a section on ethics that spells out the required code of behavior in the process and appears to have identified the methods of purchasing. Without seeking previous permission from the city manager, development directors were permitted to spend $500 (Sean, 2017). They are required to maintain accurate records and supporting materials for each transaction, though. Illegal spending and using money for personal benefit are prohibited under the ethics. It is crucial for the procuring individuals to consider a diversity of suppliers. Awarding tenders to the local dealers helps in the overall growth of the business environment. Towards supporting ethical behavior, the Polk County commission should train its staffs and managers on moral actions. Practices contrary to the stipulated code of conduct should not be tolerated. The risks involved where the rules are compromised is that the buying company may lose its reputation, the development heads may lose their jobs amongst others. Should they be offered favors by the suppliers, they should evaluate carefully to bar any influence that may affect the transparency of the purchasing process.
Conclusion
In conclusion, as seen in the case presented in the journal, several aspects are vital in maintaining purchase ethics. Information disclosure is required, keeping of proper records, proper utilization of funds and the purchase of quality items at the stipulated prices. Firms and institutions should lay down the basic ethics governing the procurement process. Follow up measures should be done like an audit to account for every cent.
