I was able to discover the many collections from various artists and designers thanks to a trip to the High Museum of Atlanta's art collection. More than 15,000 items from the 19th and 20th centuries are included in the museum's collection. The museum displays a variety of items from many continents to reflect a variety of themes:
The high-end art and design collections are some of the most extensive in the country. There are 2,300 items in the museum's collection that date back to 1640. The collection's strength is that of international level with a design that explores the intersection between design and art, technology, and handcraft as well as making and innovation. The highlights of the artwork included that of Virginia Carroll Crawford of the decorative art with significant work done by Tiffany and Co. Alexander Roux, Frank Lloyd Wright and Herter Brothers. Other important gifts to the high museum included that Emory Cocke and France collection of ceramics from English ranging from 1640's to 1840's.
American Art
The art of American collection in the high museum that features the important work presented in the 19th and 20th centuries. Renowned artists conducted the Art of American including Childe Hassam, William Chase, John Twachtman, Ossawa Henry, Andrew Wyeth and Marsden Hartley. The American art also included the landscapes designed by artists from Hudson River School, and painting of the figures was done by Inman, Sargent Singer among others. The high museum has recently focused on painting the sculpture made by Americans so as to ensure that they are kept for more years.
Some of the sculpture found in the high museum include:
Molly Hatch: Physic Garden
Molly Hatch; the artist of Physic Garden is an American born in 1978. The art consists of paint, Earthenware and 456 glaze plates which measured 9.5 inches each in diameter. High Museum of Art embraced and commissioned the ceramicist Molly Hatch. The Physic Garden presented in the museum consisted of two high stories and hand paint plate painting which is stored in the Museum. The work consisted of 456 plates of dinner that features the original design. The design was influenced by 1755 Chelsea Factory plates that came from Emory Cocke and high Frances collection of Ceramics English. The art can be re-installed in future dates into other locations or incarnations. The idea of the Physic Garden theme is to have ancient factory Chelsea.
A complete installed Physic Garden measured about 20 feet high and 17 feet wide which is one of the largest art presented by Hatch to the audience. Molly has created other work based on the material sources from the art of Metropolitan Museum and the Fine Art Museum. Molly also designs her line that consists of accessories, national clothing, and Anthropologies for retailing of home décor. The source of Chelsea plate is in the collection of high permanent since it is made of renowned Cocke collection. It comprises of over 300 works, and it is a comprehensive collection of English ceramic of art museum in America. The choice of Molly artwork effectively supports her theme since the art of Physic Garden represents a complete thesis theme.
St. Andrew
The theme of the art was to resemble St. Andrew the martyr or apostle as described by the Bible. The idea of the sculpture was to ensure that the audience has an art view of how St. Andrew looked like from the description in the Bible. St. Andrew's statue is positioned at attractive and open galleries of European of the High Museum Art. The art consists of lime wood and linden wood. From a near view, the art sculpture is that of an aging man. Andrew is a martyr as well as a biblical apostle who was attributed to the museum through Tilman Riemenschneider workshop. The foundation of the Samuel H. Kress gifted the art to the high museum in 1958 with more than 40 other arts. The theme of the sculpture is to focus on the biblical view of Andrew. During the art, Tilman Riemenschneider workshop focused on ensuring that the art proved to be that of before the 20th century so that it can be related to the Bible. The sculpture is presented to the audience as a Linden wood which was the former polychrome. It measures 40 1/2 x 13 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches through there are concerns as to whether it was originally colored. The choice of the artwork effectively represents the theme since the sculpture was of aged person.
Conclusively, the visit to the museum was quite important for me. I learnt a lot from the visit from the way the exhibitions were arranged and the also the various themes represented by the different sculptures and items under exhibition. A lot of materials were provided by the museum to help visitors understand the exhibitions. These include the descriptions under each exhibit that gives a history of the sculpture and also the presence of guides who explain and respond to questions concerning items under exhibition.
