The desire of an individual to eat or when to stop eating is in their mind. A strong comprehension of which section of the brain controls the motivation to eat can result in a greater comprehension of what makes some individuals overeat. There have been many critics that take the blame off of the personal obligations of an individual and mound it accurately at the feet of the retailing machine industry, the soft drinks companies and generally, the food industry. This paper will, therefore, focus on hunger and eating and what motivates us to eat, overeat and eating too little and there consequences.
Body
There are different things which motivate us to eat, for example, appetite and hunger. Appetite is often described as the desire to eat and it is constant all through people’s life. It is important to eat as food provides the body with the required nutrients required to keep you going on our day to day activities. One of the reasons why people eat is because they want to live whereas when people have too much desire to eat can make an individual feel like they are living to eat which might likely results in unwanted health issues. In most cases, people tend to feel the smell of a food from a distance but what motivates them to look for the food is actually a relatively complex interrelationship between their body and their brain (Makatouni 347).
People often discover their appetite after they experience hunger which is defined as uncomfortable feeling triggered by the desire for food. Everyone often experiences hunger and it often takes a few time of not eating to activate this sensation. The sensation is referred to as hunger pangs caused because of the empty stomach. Sometimes, appetite and hunger can be used interchangeably though they are not the same thing. There are many reasons why an individual can overeat. One of the reasons is alcohol which can increase the likelihood of eating for different reasons such the decreased self-control and increase in impulsivity. Markedly, it is because it tends to improve the test of the food and it tends to interfere with our ability to monitor the signals of our body referred to as interoception (Barab 19). This condition is often measured by a heartbeat tracking and individuals who are good at this task tend to have a healthy weight and they also tend to have healthy eating habits.
However, people who drink alcohol tend to have a decreased capability of tracking their personal heartbeat. However, lack of appetite is what makes people eat too little. Some people tend to eat too little because they want to reduce their weight or maybe they cannot afford required food. There are many consequences of eating too much or eating too little, for example, obesity. Obesity and overweight is often the abnormal or excessive fat accumulation which tends to interfere with the health of an individual (Landsberg 10).
In conclusion, Obesity being a chronic disease tends to have a negative impact on different systems of our body. Individuals who are overweight or obese tend to be at a high risk of developing serious conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes. People who eat too little tend to suffer from nutritional diseases because of insufficient nutrients in their body. It is also advisable that individuals should be taking moderate food so that they can avoid chronic diseases related to either eating too much or too little.
