The Market Basket Strike
The market basket strike is a rare scenario whereby employees boycotted in a bid to support their CEO. The strike occurred after the company fired Arthur Demoulas which was a great surprise to the society. Most of the worker's strikes are due to poor working conditions, low wages or violation of fundamental rights. The strike lowered the productivity of the company leading to the loss of millions of dollars. Thus the shareholders were forced to recall Arthur in the firm. During my study on the market basket strike, I noted several factors that managers should embrace such as being kind to their employees, customers and share the credit (Anderson, 2014).
The Relationship Between Managers and Employees
.The managers should be good to their employees to ensure efficient productivity in the company. The relationship between a manager and an employee is significant to the overall performance of the company. The employees should feel trusted with the values, goals and strategic framework within which they should do their duties. The manager should learn to involve employees in making decisions of the company to make them have a sense of belonging. When one is free at work, the probability of giving their best is high than when one if working under fear. Communication is primary to a good relationship between the manager and employee because it helps the employees to voice out their ideas and complains thus solving conflicts with ease. Most managers should not hide business information from the workers who can help in reducing a lot of job insecurities. The manager should be willing to interact with the employees by being honest and communicating effectively. Also, managers should organize social trips which will give them an opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding between them and the workers. Being a good manager involves respecting human rights and accommodating diverse beliefs, culture and ideas. Arthur is said to have known all the employees by name and celebrated their birthdays which made the company outstanding to the extent that it made the competitor's to close their businesses (Heathfield, 2018).
The Importance of Customer Satisfaction
Managers should be good to customers by providing quality and affordable services. Managers should ensure that the expectations of customers are entirely fulfilled. Taking time to interact with customers is an excellent sign of humility as it helps you understand customers' views, feedbacks, and any proposal. Getting feedback from consumers is significant because it helps in improving efficiency in the production thus increasing sales and the expected income. Involving customers in company events such as celebrations will contribute to deeper relationships. One of Arthur's secret to the massive returns and increased production was the ability to accommodate customer's feedback both positive and negative. Managers should focus on building long-term relationships with their customers to promote more sell Business (Queensland, 2017).
Recognition and Appreciation
Managers should acknowledge the accomplishments of the employees and give them credit due. Most managers should learn how to appreciate the work conducted by the staffs and refrain from taking credit on their behalf. The progress of a company depends on the management, staff, and other shareholders thus any achievements should benefit every person in the firm. For example, any form of creativity, innovation, and invention by staff in the company should be acknowledged. Managers should not brand employees' achievements on themselves instead they should appreciate them. Ways of appreciating the employees may take different forms such as promotion, monetary tokens, increase in salary, and business trips among others. Sharing credit will lead to competitive productions which will increase the expected returns.
Conclusion
The market basket strike proves that there can still be a good relationship between the manager and employees. Labor turnover, absenteeism, and poor performance may be due to ideological differences between the management and an employee thus cultivating a good relationship are essential for the prosperity of a company. Also, employees should be motivated by appreciation of every good work done. Programs such as the employee of the month awards should be established in business. A good relationship with customers eases production because all the parties undertake theor roles with a sense of fulfilment; hence, it is easier to meet the consumer requirements.
