Staffing

Furthermore, staffing is also involved with transfers, promotions, performance appraisals, training and development, and remuneration.


Directing


Directing involves setting the motion for the completion of the different responsibilities that ensure the attainment of the set goals. It is mostly concerned with guiding, influencing, supervising, motivating, and communicating. It combines the elements of planning, organizing, and staffing to ensure efficiency in performing the different roles (Kanthi Herath, 2007).


Controlling


Controlling involves ensuring that all the various function are operating effectively. It provides that in a case of any deviation, measures are taken to bring the functions back on track. It also focuses on monitoring the output of the employees, establishing performance standards, measuring the performance, and taking a corrective action (Robbins, DeCenzo, & Coulter, 2008).


Skills of an Effective Manager


Different skills are required for one to become an effective manager. One should have a good organization such that they can organize the different department to perform various tasks. Managers should also have good time management since they are times they are needed to work under strict deadlines. Moreover, they should also have interpersonal skills which are critical in enhancing a good relationship with the employees. It is a crucial element since it informs on the need to work as a team. Managers should be good communicators since they have the responsibility of keeping the employees informed about different aspects of the company concerning their expectations. Besides, a manager should possess the problem-solving skills to ensure the problems encountered at work do not derail the company’s functioning. Managers should have effective leadership skills to ensure they are the role models for the employees (Hogan & Warrenfeltz, 2003).

In conclusion, management is a significant factor in a company; hence, managers should ensure they understand its functioning as well as possess the needed skills that will enhance their effectiveness. Having the skills and know-how on the ways to deal with the aspects of management is a critical step towards ensuring that all the set goals of the company are achieved and that the employees are happy to be associated with the organization.
