Malayali marriage, family, and home life research proposal

An ethnic group known as the Malayali

An ethnic group known as the Malayali can be found primarily in Kerala, a mountainous area of India. There are reportedly 35 million people who know Malayalam as their first language. Their history can be traced back to the 16th century, when they first came into contact with traders from the outside world, and their society has been developing and crystallizing ever since. As a result of the community's history of immigration from other parts of the globe and the region's distinctive tropical agricultural climate, it has a distinct culture. As a result, the study will chart the evolution of Malayali society, focusing in particular on their marriage, family, and domestic practices. The rationale for my research is to understand how the Malayali people have been able to maintain a distinct culture when it comes to their societal way of life. The culture of the Malayali has developed on three fronts according to their religious sects; the Hindu sub-culture, the Muslim sub-culture, and the Syrian Christians sub-culture. I am intrigued by this ethnic group, and I would like to understand how the marriage, family, and home life of the three religious groups found within the Kerala compares and contrasts, and how this culture has enabled the people to thrive in the face of modernization in India and the rest of the world.

Through my library research

Through my library research, I will seek to understand the culture of the people of Kerala- the marriage, family, and home life, by exploring the answers to questions such as the following:
